Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials said that two little brown bats with white-nose syndrome were found recently in Boulder County.
Little brown bats are an endangered species of bat found in Canada and the U.S. According to a release, a little brown bat was was found crawling on a public bike path in Longmont on Feb. 29. A wildlife rehabber collected the bat, which was dehydrated and unable to fly due to its brittle wings.
Wildlife officials advised the rehabber to submit the bat to the CPW Wildlife Health Lab for further investigation. On March 5, test results confirmed that the bat was infected with white-nose syndrome.
Two weeks later in Boulder, a second little brown bat was confirmed to have the same disease, indicating that additional bats have been exposed and may be found in the coming weeks.
