Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever in Kansas

    Last Update: 6:23 pm

HARVEY COUNTY, Kansas -- In the past week, the Harvey County Health Department has reported three cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, a potentially deadly bacteria carried by ticks smaller than a dime.

"It can cause brain injury and trauma," said JoAnne Miller, director of the Harvey County Health Department. "You start to feel malazed, achiness, possibly itching, swelling at the site, your joints hurt. It's kind of like a flu and then you develop a fever."
