12 quarantined after Norovirus outbreak at Royal Columbian Hospital

An outbreak of the highly contagious Norovirus at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster has quarantined a dozen patients on three floors.
The outbreak started on Dec. 28 and has so far sickened 12 patients and six staff on the hospital?s cardiac, general medicine and older adult units.
The cardiac unit (2 South) reopened Jan. 1, but the general medicine (6 North) and older adult (6 South) units will remain closed for at least another 72 hours as a new case of the gastrointestinal illness was identified Tuesday, according to Tasleem Juma, spokeswoman for the Fraser Health Region which is responsible for RCH operations.
