18-year-old woman dies of meningitis in NH

CONCORD ? An 18-year-old Merrimack County high school student, initially thought to have a urinary tract infection, has died from a suspected case of bacterial meningitis, state health officials said Tuesday.
The young woman died Sunday, a day after being admitted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, said Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis, the epidemiologist for New Hampshire. Alroy-Preis said the victim was awake and alert when she showed up at the Franklin Regional Hospital with severe symptoms.
