    First case of malaria or malaria in four years detected in Oaxaca

    OAXACA.- After four years without detecting any person with the disease known as malaria or malaria, the Oaxaca Health Services confirmed an imported case in the town of Santa Cruz de Huatulco.

    Personnel from the Health Center of said region managed to detect in a timely manner the first case of the virus caused by the parasite ‘Plasmodium’, after a long period of time.

    The coast of Oaxaca is the natural habitat of the "Anopheles" mosquito, which is a transmitter of this disease.

    According to information from the Oaxaca Health Services, the most recent case of this disease at the local level was in 2013, in the town of Santa María Tonameca, while the last case detected was in 2017, with the infection of a stranger.
