DOH: Incidents of dengue in PH on downtrend

INCIDENTS of dengue cases in the country are generally decreasing, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

“Based on data as of February 23, 2024, there is a notable 11 percent reduction in dengue cases nationwide observed from January 14 to 27, 2024, with 7,434 cases, in comparison to the preceding period from January 1 to 13, 2024, which had 8,368 cases,” the DOH said in a statement.

The DOH clarified however, that the figures may still change because of delayed reporting of cases...

Dengue in Western Visayas nears 1,500 cases; Iloilo hit hard

The Department of Health in Western Visayas (DOH WV CHD) has noted an alarming rise in dengue cases, with nearly 1,500 instances and three deaths reported from January 1 to March 9 this year.

During the week of March 3 to 9 alone, the region saw an addition of 165 dengue cases, as per the data from the DOH WV CHD – Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU), which was disseminated on March 12.

Iloilo province emerged as the most affected area with 74 new cases, contributing to a regional total of 427 cases.

Aklan and Capiz followed with 28 and 20 new cases, respectively, bringing their totals to 252 and 203 cases. Iloilo City also reported 20 new cases, increasing its count to 140 cases.

These recent cases have brought the cumulative total for the year to 1,467, marginally down by 1 percent from the 1,481 cases reported during the same timeframe in the previous year...

Dengue cases up in QC, Western Visayas —DOH

The Philippines reported more than 60,000 dengue cases from January to May this year, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

In Mark Salazar’s 24 Oras report on Tuesday, figures showed around 67,874 dengue cases were monitored in the country in the first five months of 2024.

Dengue case fatality rate exceeds DOH standards

THE Davao City Health Office (CHO) Tropical Disease Prevention Control Unit reported that the city's dengue case fatality rate exceeds the Department of Health's standard of less than 0.5 percent.

During the Dengue Awareness Month event at NCCC Buhangin on June 20, 2024, Patrick Gwynn Babante, representing the CHO unit, presented data showing 1,954 dengue cases in the city as of week 23 of 2024. In that week alone, there were 23 cases and approximately 16 deaths, resulting in a case fatality rate of 0.08 percent.

Despite these figures, Babante assured the public not to panic.

As of May 2024, the Barangay Mosquito-Borne Diseases Task Force is active in 34 barangays, with Buhangin proper showing the most engagement despite its 715 residents....

Dengue cases in Iloilo province increase by 130%

ILOILO CITY — All 43 towns in the province of Iloilo, including one component city, have seen a significant rise in dengue cases compared to the previous year.
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said as of July 6, the province recorded a total of 2,053 cases, a 130-percent increase from the 893 cases recorded in the same period last year.
In the first week of July alone, there were 348 cases reported in the province.
The IPHO also reported five dengue-related fatalities in the towns of Badiangan, Miagao and Lambunao.

IPHO head Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon said 31 out of the province's 43 towns currently have active dengue transmission cases.
Among these, 79 villages have recorded clustering of cases or have documented three or more cases within a four-week period...

MANILA – Dengue cases increased by 33 percent nationwide to more than 128,800 during the first seven months of 2024, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

From January to July 27, the DOH said 128,834 people caught dengue – higher than the 97,211 cases logged in the same period last year.

The DOH, however, noted that despite increased cases, dengue-related deaths slightly went down to 337 from 378 in 2023.

It said the lower death count in the first seven months of this year was due to the public’s initiative to seek early consultation and improved hospital case management...

NegOcc logs 3.2K dengue cases since January, up 214% from 2023

BACOLOD CITY – Dengue cases in Negros Occidental increased by 214.29 percent in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the number of cases during the same period last year, data released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Thursday showed.

From Jan. 1 to Aug. 31, a total of 3,234 cases, including nine deaths, were reported, higher by 1,029 cases from the 2,205 cases logged in the same period in 2023.

The top 10 local government units in Negros Occidental with the highest number of cases are Hinoba-an with 312, followed by Bago City, 274; Sipalay City, 234 with one death; Talisay City, 208; Sagay City, 199; San Carlos City, 198; Kabankalan City, 196; Silay City, 186 with one death; Cadiz City, 179; and Cauayan, 171.

Based on the CHO surveillance report, the 1- to 10-year age group has the highest number of cases, although the patients’ ages ranged from zero to 92 years...

Dengue cases nationwide rise by 25% in early August – DOH

Albay reports sharp rise in dengue cases this year

LEGAZPI CITY – The Albay Provincial Health Office (PHO) is encouraging the public to practice the "4S" strategy against dengue as it reported a significant increase in the number of cases compared to the same period last year.

Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) chief Jan Edmund Dominic Bailon told the Philippine News Agency that there have been 2,116 dengue cases from January to date, compared to only 469 cases in 2023.

Dengue cases in Metro Manila reach alert threshold

MANILA, Philippines — Dengue cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) have reached “alert level,” the Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday.

The DOH-NCR also reported that leptospirosis cases in some areas in the region have reached the epidemic threshold.

Mary Grace Labayen, of the DOH-NCR Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, said 24,232 dengue cases were recorded in Metro Manila from Jan. 1 to Oct. 26.

The figure is 34.47 percent higher than the 18,020 cases registered during the same period last year.

The DOH said 25.62 percent of the dengue cases came from Quezon City...
