                Dengue cases in Pagadian drop

Pagadian City (8 December) -- Dengue cases in Pagadian has dropped dramatically last month following massive awareness, information and cleanliness campaign in villages which are thought to be dengue-prone areas.

A radio report quoting Ms. Helen Arao, Chief Nurse of the Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center (ZSMC) said that the number of patients admitted here due to the mosquito-borne disease has remained low for the past two months.

This means that the campaign of health authorities in Zamboanga del Sur against dengue is paying off, disclosing that from 46 cases in August, it went down to 35 in September while data for October is yet unavailable.

"This is good indication of our success in preventing dengue," Arao said.

Last August, Governor Antonio H. Cerilles called on communities, mayors, punong barangays, health workers and residents to take their brooms and dust pans and clean their surroundings.

In Pagadian City, a radio report said that dengue cases in June rose to 108, more than double for the City Health Office data of 49 in May. This means that the barangays where the patients live are hosting the dengue fever causing mosquito Aedis Aegypti...
