    Patients with dengue fever increased five times this year

    BANGKOK, 11 February 2013 Public Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr Narong Sahamethapat revealed that the number of people with dengue fever exceeded 5,700 people during January 1st to February 5th.

    According to Dr. Narong, the number of patients with dengue fever has increased 5 times compared to that reported during the same period last year. He said the number could rise to around 100,000 ? 120,000 people...

    There has been a big rise in the number of people infected with dengue fever this year, with the number of cases up four-fold over the first two months of 2012, the Public Health Ministry said on Monday

    Public Health Minister Pradit Sinthawanarong said there were 9,824 people treated for dengue during January and February, an average of around 1,000 patients a week. Half of the patients were students.

    So far this year, 12 people had died from this disease...

        Public Health stepping up dengue prevention following several deaths

        BANGKOK, 17 March 2013 (NNT) - The Public Health Ministry has stepped up the dengue prevention measures and the mosquito control after a number of children younger than 14 years of age have reportedly died from the fever.

        Permanent Secretary of Public Health Ministry Dr. Narong Sahametapat cited information from the Department of Disease Control in reporting that around13,000 people across the country have contracted dengue fever during the first 3 months of this year.

        He said that dengue patients are found in every province of Thailand and that the latest records of around 1,000-1,500 new cases emerged each week are considered 4 times higher than last year...

          BMA warns dengue fever on the rise

          BANGKOK, 21 March 2013 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has warned that the number of dengue fever cases is on the rise in the capital, and the spread of the tropical disease is likely to be more serious this year.

          The BMA?s health department has issued a statement saying that generally dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease, tends to spread during the rainy season, but Bangkok has recently seen rising numbers of dengue infection during other seasons.

          According to a report by the Disease Control Department, over 2,000 people have been infected with the disease since the beginning of this year. Last year, a total of 10,081 cases were reported, with 6 fatalities...

            PHUKET: Phuket people don?t need to worry about an outbreak of dengue fever on the island at this stage, but should still remain vigilant, says the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPPHO).

            A spokesperson for the Phuket Provincial Public Health Office?s Disease Control Group told The Phuket News that during 2012, one person died from dengue fever and 355 others reportedly caught the disease.

            ?So far this year, from January to March 15, there have been 63 reported cases in Phuket, but no deaths,? the spokesperson said.

            But she said dengue fever was not a large problem in Phuket because there were not so many cases...

                BMA warns city residents against dengue risk and outbreak

                BANGKOK, 29 March 2013 (NNT) ? The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is warning the city residents to beware of possible dengue outbreak and to exterminate all mosquito-breeding sites around them.

                BMA?s Health Department Director Dr. Wantanee Wattana revealed on Thursday that there continue to be more dengue patients in Bangkok lately.

                  BANGKOK, 8 April 2013 (NNT) ? The Public Health Ministry is worried that the country may be hit by a dengue virus epidemic after the Songkran celebrations are over.

                  Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health Dr. Sopon Mekthon, as the chair of the ministry?s anti-dengue war room, said on Sunday that, during the past 2 weeks, there have been around 2,000 more dengue patients reported across the country.

                  He said the latest records show a slight decline from the months before, highly likely because of the summer school break.

                        ANGKOK, 29 April 2013 (NNT) - Authorities in the upper parts of Thailand have warned that the number of dengue fever cases is on the rise, with reports of fatalities in many provinces.

                        In the Northeast, at least 203 cases of dengue fever were reported in Nakhon Phanom from January to April of this year. Most cases occurred among teenagers and young adults while an 18-year-old girl in the province recently died from the fever...

                            33 people die of dengue fever during Jan 1 to April 30

                            BANGKOK, 2 May 2013 (NNT) ? The Disease Control Department (DDC) has reported that 33 people have died of dengue fever, while trying to raise public awareness of the disease.

                            The Department of Disease Control under the Public Health Ministry has hosted an event to raise awareness of dengue fever.

                            According to Disease Control Department Director-General Pornthep Siriwanarangsan, over 26,000 cases of dengue fever have been reported during January 1st to April 30th; 33 of the patients died.

                              Sharp rise in haemorrhage dengue fever

                              The drastic rise in haemorrhage dengue fever cases has prompted the Public Health Ministry to launch a massive nationwide campaign to cope with the situation.

                              There have been 44 deaths among the 39,029 patients in the past five months.

                              More than 23,000 schools nationwide have been instructed to eliminate mosquito-breeding sources such as water containers.

                              Revealing that about 50 per cent of the patients were children under-15, the Public Health Minister's permanent secretary, Dr Narong Sahamethaphat, expressed his concern over the rising number of people suffering from dengue fever and said the situation was very critical.

                              Only the past week, some 4,000 people had been affected, double the number in the previous two weeks.
