While 6,423 persons were afflicted with dengue country-wide, Delhi, with 1,731 patients, had the dubious distinction of registering the maximum number of cases.
Maharashtra witnessed a spurt in the number of fresh cases which more than doubled overnight from 240 yesterday to 580 today, according to the national vector borne disease control programme.
Twenty-two people have died due to dengue in Maharashtra.
With the death of Bareilly-based Rohit Sharma, who was rushed to the AIIMS in a critical condition yesterday and who died within an hour of reaching hospital, the death toll in the national capital has touched 40. The government has confirmed 31 deaths in Delhi.
Ninety-four patients suffering from the mosquito-borne disease were admitted to various hospitals in the capital, including 27 at the AIIMS, as the number of dengue patients in the capital rose to 1731. In Delhi, 94 fresh cases were reported.
While three deaths were reported from Andhra Pradesh, one death each were confirmed in Delhi, Harayana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. These deaths have taken the nationwide death toll to 116.
Kerala reported 794 cases, while four have died due to the viral disease, while in Rajasthan 781 people have been afflicted with the disease and 11 deaths have been reported.
