    LEGAZPI CITY?A mosquito-borne disease similar to dengue fever but milder in form has struck an island-village in Rapu-Rapu town in Albay, afflicting 83 people, Albay Gov. Joey Salceda said on Monday.

    Salceda directed Dr. Luis Mendoza, provincial health officer, to check on the sudden rise of the chikungunya fever over the last three weeks in Barangay San Ramon on Batan Island. Municipal health employees have reported 70 cases in mid-September and 83 cases by the end of the month..

      CEBU CITY, Cebu - Dengue cases in Central Visayas continue to soar as indicated by the already nearly 10,000 cases in the region by the Department of Health?s Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) in Region 7 during the period covering January 1 to September 29, 2012.

      RESU 7 latest figures registered a total of 9,873 cases with 42 deaths or 154.3 percent higher compared to the same period in 2011 with only 3,882 cases and 19 deaths...

        COTABATO CITY, Philippines ? Twelve residents in North Cotabato?s Makilala town have been hospitalized due to dengue infection in the past two weeks, local health officials said.

        Local health officials recorded one fatality, a four-year-old child, from among the 12 dengue cases. Five of the patients are still being treated in a hospital, according to Catholic station dxND, a broadcast outfit in Kidapawan City.

        The readio station reported that Barangay Kisante in Makilala, accounts for most of the dengue cases recorded during the period.

          DOH: Dengue cases rise to 132k, with 701 deaths so far in 2012

          Dengue remained a major health threat, affecting at least 132,046 people and claiming the lives of 701 Filipinos so far this year, the Department of Health said Thursday.

          In a post on its Facebook account, the DOH said 132,046 cases were recorded nationwide from Jan. 1 to Oct. 13. Of these, 701 were fatal.

          "This is 24.92 percent higher compared to the same time period last year (105,702)," it said of the number of dengue cases.

            GOVERNMENT CENTER, Palo, Leyte -- The dengue cases in Ormoc City are now under control, with the City Government providing the necessary attention and medicines to the affected persons.

            The government, however, remains not complacent, as its campaign drive against dengue continues to ensure that the cases are checked, said Elsie Jaca, sentinel nurse of the Ormoc City Health.

            Based on the health office?s monitoring, Ormoc had 343 dengue fever cases from the months of January up to October, with four confirmed deaths.

            Last year, Ormoc had 212 dengue fever cases with one death...

              Dengue cases rising again

              CEBU CITY - Dengue fever claimed its 13th fatality in Cebu City this year, as the number of patients rose to 3,632 as of November 30.

              The City Health Department (CHD) reported that the number of cases so far this year increased by 121 percent compared to the same period last year, which saw 1,642 dengue fever cases in the city.

              There were 12 deaths from January to November 30, 2011.

              Although Barangay Guadalupe reported the most number of cases this year at 297, it did not record any death so far.

              Barangay Lahug has 204 cases, Labangon has 186, Kamputhaw has 171 and Inayawan, 144.

              Assistant City Epidemiologist Durinda Macasocol said the last reported death was a three-year-old girl from Barangay Parian, who died to dengue fever last December 3.

              Barangays Kamputhaw, Basak San Nicolas, Sambag 1, Apas, Calamba, Bulacao, Capitol, Tejero, Kasambagan, Pahina Central, Carreta and T. Padilla reported one death each...

                    Butuan City beefs up campaign against dengue

                    BUTUAN CITY, Jan 10 (PIA) -- The city government advised the public to be more alert against dengue fever, as 398 dengue cases were recorded in the city as of December 2012.

                    The City Health Office (CHO) report showed that Brgy. Libertad is the most affected area last year with 30 dengue cases. Brgy. San Vicente followed closely with 28 dengue cases reported.

                      Dengue cases 175% up in Butuan

                      BUTUAN CITY, Jan. 24 (PIA) -- The dengue cases in 2012 here in the city has increased 175 percent as compared to 2011. Of this figure, only in the month of April were the number of cases remained the same.

                      In her report to members of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) held recently here, Michelle Mae Que, a nurse from the city health office, said dengue cases in 2011 was recorded at 172 while 473 cases were reported in 2012.

                      Que said from comparing the two years since January to December, it showed that there is an average increase of 172.1154 percent.
                      She also said that the month of December recorded the highest increase. ?In 2011, only 21 cases were recorded while in 2012, there was a drastic increase of 99. This has an equivalent of 371.4286 percent increase,? Que said...

                        THE Cebu City Health Department (CHD) will strengthen its campaign against dengue as the number of dengue cases reached 4,057 in 2012.

                        The figure is nearly double that of 2011?s 2,043 cases.

                        The number of deaths caused by the dengue virus in 2012, though, is lower compared to 2011.

                          DENGUE cases in Misamis Oriental in 2012 have surged to 1,356 with 21 deaths, according to the Provincial Health Office.

                          Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ignacio Moreno attributed the increase to the improvement of their own case finding through their sentinel site where dengue cases are now recorded.

                          ?Because there were unreported dengue cases before, so gamay ra ang recorded figure,? Moreno told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro.
