Hospitals want to get a handle on superbugs
The president of the Hamilton hospital where a C. difficile outbreak infected more than 100 patients says medical officials across the province need to learn more about how to fight deadly superbugs in health-care settings.

Sixteen infected patients died at St. Joe?s in a 3?-month surge of C. diff, one of the most pernicious infections in hospitals and other health institutions today. The outbreak ended Feb. 11, but St. Joe?s is still reviewing case files for the fatalities, to determine whether C. diff caused the death, contributed, or had no impact.
C. diff is the hardest-to-control pathogen of about a dozen deadly healthcare-associated infections. HAIs, as they are known, have long been a serious risk for in-patients, but concern is rising about C. diff and other superbugs acquired outside hospitals...
