    Four killed, 36 hospitalised as cholera hits Adamawa

    The administration of Yola-North Local Government Area in Adamawa has announced a cholera outbreak in the area.

    It also stated that the outbreak had resulted in the deaths of four persons, while 36 others affected by the outbreak were receiving treatment in various hospitals in the area.

    The Chairman of the council, Jibrin Ibrahim, announced this to newsmen during his visit to the victims at the Infectious Disease Centre, Yola, on Sunday.

    He said the outbreak was recorded in the Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards in the area.​..

      No less than 10 persons have been disclosed to have died in the wake of the cholera outbreak which hit Adamawa State.

      Arewa PUNCH reports that on Monday, a medical official at the specialist hospital made the disclosure that a total of 10 victims who suffered from the cholera outbreak have died.

      Earlier on Sunday, the Chairman of Yola-North Local Government Area, Mr. Jibril Ibrahim had confirmed four deaths and 40 recorded cases.

      Ibrahim said, “The total number of confirmed cases now stand at 40, with four fatalities.”

      Speaking with Arewa PUNCH on Monday, a medical doctor who sought anonymity because he is not officially authorised to speak on the issue with the media disclosed that between Saturday and Monday, 10 deaths had been recorded with 76 cases already confirmed.​..

        ​The Borno State Government has said that the North-Eastern State has receorded 40 suspected cases of cholera, just as it confirms a full-blown cholera infection of two persons.

        Baba Mallam Gana, a Professor and Commissioner for Health stated this on Monday in Maiduguri while flagging off integrated oral cholera and measles vaccination as well as vitamin A supplementation.

        According to him, the two confirmed cases were declared in the recent floods that devastated 70% of Maiduguri metropolis.​..

          The death toll from the recent cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has reached 12, with 304 individuals currently hospitalized.

          The state’s Commissioner for Health, Chief Felix Tangwami, provided the update during a media briefing in Yola, the state capital.

          Last week, the state confirmed the cholera outbreak, reporting 10 deaths and the hospitalization of 76 individuals. The affected local government areas include Girei, Furore, Yola-South, and Yola-North.​..

                    Cholera kills nine in Yobe
                    27th September 2024​



                    The Yobe Government said a total of 132 cases of cholera were recorded in the state as at September 25, out of which nine died.

                    Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Mohammed Gana, stated this in a statement in Damaturu on Friday.

                    He said the cases were reported in Gubja, Fune, Machina, Nangere and Nguru Local Government Areas.​..

                            The public is urged to take any suspected case to the hospital to avoid the rapid spread of the disease.

                            The Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Development Agency on Thursday said one death has been recorded out of 86 suspected cases of cholera.

                            ​ The Director of Public Health, Hamza Ibrahim-Ikara, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kaduna. He said for the past 5 months that the country experienced outbreaks of cholera in 30 states, the state has not recorded any not until August 15.

                            Ibrahim-Ikara said, "We have not recorded any case of cholera but unfortunately for us, on August 15, we received the new index case.

                            “He was a 16-year-old boy from Likoro in Kudan LGA and unfortunately before we arrived the health facility, he died.”

                            The director said upon the child’s death, the state government reactivated the rapid response team which swung into action on August 16.

                            According to him, the state also received 19 cases from three local governments, which included: Kudan (2) Sabon gari(9) and Kubau (7). He said the state recorded total suspected cases of 86, in nine local governments, whereby 24 had been treated and discharged...

                                ​The number of cholera cases in Nigeria has surged to 14,237, with 378 deaths recorded since January 2024, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

                                This marks a nearly 300% increase compared to the over 3,500 cases reported during the same period last year.

                                The outbreak has affected 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), spanning 339 local government areas. The current case fatality ratio (CFR) stands at approximately 2.7%.

                                “The number of suspected cholera cases and deaths in 2024 has more than doubled compared to this time last year. These numbers reflect the severity of the outbreak and reinforce the need for continuous vigilance and action,” Jide Idris, the Director-General of the NCDC, said during a press conference on Thursday in Abuja.​..
