Response to measles: support from the Ango/Bas-Uélé health zone announced

Kisangani, November 11, 2024 (ACP).- Doctors Without Borders (MSF) plans to provide relief to the Ango health zone, in the Bas-Uélé province, north of the Democratic Republic of Congo, following the alert on the measles epidemic in this region, ACP learned Monday from a telephone interview.
" The provincial health division in Bas-Uélé province informed us that samples of suspected cases were sent to Kinshasa for analysis and ten (10) cases were found to be positive ," said Mr. Mballo Boubakar, head of the MSF project in Kisangani, Emergency Response (KERE). He added: " We have just deployed a team on site in Ango this Monday, with the aim of investigating in order to allow us to decide whether to intervene. This will allow us to support the Ango health zone for the management of cases. In a week we will have details regarding this alert ."
It is worth noting that through the airwaves, the administrator of the territory of Ango, Marcelin Lekabusoya, declared that the measles epidemic is raging in his entity. Adults would also be affected by this epidemic in addition to children and that 243 cases of measles have been reported so far. For the moment, the territory lacks the appropriate means to support the general hospital of Ango for care, the source concluded.

Tanganyika: Moba health zone affected by measles epidemic

Inongo, July 5, 2024 (ACP) .- A measles epidemic has been raging for more than a month in the Bolia sector, in the Mai-Ndombe province (West of the Democratic Republic of Congo) where it causes an average of 3 deaths per day among the child population, the ACP learned on Friday from a health source.
" Between January and June 2024, we recorded a total of 1,003 cases including 732 children under 5 years old with 15 deaths. 271 people over 5 years old with 6 cases of death were recorded, or 1,003 cases recorded with 21 deaths," said Michel Biembula Nsokoko, supervisor in charge of epidemiology at the central office of the rural health zone of Inongo.
According to him, the epidemic is due to the negligence of the population with regard to routine vaccination and is observed in particular in the villages of Ngembo, Isanga, Mbala and Ibeke Bolia, in Inongo territory.
" A severe measles epidemic has been raging for over a month in our region, particularly in the localities of Ngembo, Isanga Mbala and Ibeke Bolia where on average 3 cases of child deaths are recorded daily, creating desolation among the population ," declared Philémon Mbokolo Mpotokole, president of the Indenge Lonkoke Cooperative (Cooindelo) in Bolia. DRC-Beni: measles claims victims in Kainama, more than 70 cases including two deaths already reported

At least two cases of death due to the measles epidemic were recorded last week in the locality of Kainama, located in the triangle of death in Beni territory (North Kivu).
The information is confirmed to ACTUALITÉ.CD by the deputy head nurse of the Kainama health center, who warns that the area has reported more than 70 cases for two months. The disease is not fully taken care of and it risks claiming many more victims, indicates the health authority.
“In the Kainama health center we do not have a refrigerator for vaccine management. This is the basis of the multiplicity of several cases of measles in the area. Also, people don't pay their bills. At least eight children have died from measles in the Doruma health zone (Haut-Uele), a border region with South Sudan and the Central African Republic, for almost four months. The head doctor of the Doruma health zone, Lucien Arowandi, announced this on Saturday April 20 on Radio Okapi.
