Some 459 cases of measles have been recorded in Mali since the beginning of January, in the regions of Sikasso, Kayes, Koulikoro, Ségou, Mopti and the District of Bamako, said Tuesday, Dr Cheick Amadou Tidiane Traoré, Director General of Health and Public Hygiene.

“Since the start of 2022 to date, we have recorded 459 measles cases. By the grace of God but also with the vaccination activities, we have not recorded any cases of death. Zero deaths has significant value when it comes to vaccination and when it comes to measles,” explained the same source.

Dr. Traoré believes that "vaccination against measles can in any case reduce the effect of this disease on populations" stressing that "when you see an epidemic of measles and there is no death, c is that people are somehow immune, they have received at least a dose in the majority”.

Dr. Cheick Amadou Tidiane Traoré indicated that "measles has been reported in the Kayes region, particularly in the health districts of Diéma, Kita and Nioro, the regions of Koulikoro, Sikasso, Ségou, Mopti, Tenenkou and the district of Bamako", claiming that cases of measles have been detected in all the communes of the district of Bamako”.

He further noted that “arrangements have been made in the various health districts to initiate response activities to minimize the explosion”.

Dr. Ibrahim Diarra, head of the expanded immunization program, for his part, noted that "in all community health centers in Mali and throughout the national territory, there has never been a vaccine shortage. anti-measles”.

"Safety and security don't just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear."

Mali: in Kassaro, the reappearance of measles worries

      Apr 6, 2022

Measles is resurfacing after more than thirty years in the commune of Kassaro (Kita region). In the locality, routine vaccination has been affected due to the coronavirus disease and people's distrust of the anti-covid-19 vaccine. The reappearance of measles brings back bad memories for some residents of Kassaro. To prevent it, health workers recommend vaccination.
