    4 measles cases reported in Florida this month

    Florida has had four confirmed cases of measles this year ? all in May ? in two Floridians and in two out-of-state individuals, according to information provided by the Florida Department of Health to the Orlando Sentinel.

    The two Florida cases were confirmed in Duval and Miami-Dade counties in unvaccinated individuals who had traveled internationally. The other two cases were confirmed in non-Florida residents who traveled to the state while sick.

    The recent measles activity is similar to previous years so far, according to state health officials, but as a precaution, they?ve asked providers for increased vigilance and are encouraging Floridians to get vaccinated...

    An unvaccinated child has contracted the contagious measles virus in Pinellas County, according to the Florida Department of Health, which said Monday it is investigating the case.

    It was unclear how the child contracted the virus, according to the health department. But local officials are working to identify and notify people who were potentially exposed. The child was diagnosed at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.

    The case is expected to be isolated, and no additional precautions are being taken in local schools or other public places. Meanwhile, the health department encouraged all residents and visitors who have not been immunized to get vaccinated...

      ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Two more people have come down with measles in Pinellas County, bringing the total to three cases in as many days.

      The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) says the two new infected individuals live in the same household and were not vaccinated.

      The previous case lives in a different household. DOH-Pinellas says all of the cases were acquired locally.

      The first case was announced on August 13. These are the first cases of measles in Pinellas County since 1998...

        PINELLAS COUNTY, FL -- Through additional investigations, the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County has identified four additional cases of measles in unvaccinated people since the first one was announced on Aug. 13.

        The number of cases in Pinellas now stands at seven. Prior to the recent cases, measles had not been seen in the county since 1998.

        Some of the individuals have familial relationships with one reporting international travel. The cases are no longer contagious, but DOH-Pinellas is working with community health-care partners to continue its investigation...

          Four more people have come down with the measles, according to the Department of Health in Pinellas County, adding to three cases announced by officials earlier this month.

          Before the first case was announced on Aug. 13, there had been no cases of measles in the county for 20 years. The total number of people infected now stands at seven. None of them had been vaccinated, the health department said.

          Some were related to another infected person who had traveled internationally, one of the most common ways to contract the disease.

          Health officials conducted interviews at doctor?s offices, schools and other places where people had come in with those who were initially infected. The four new cases were identified after the unvaccinated people were no longer contagious, said Maggie Hall, a spokeswoman with the health department...

            SARASOTA (WWSB) - Four unvaccinated children in Sarasota, who had close contact to each other, have been diagnosed with measles.

            The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County says the infections were acquired locally and the source has not been identified. The department is now working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed.

            It's also encouraging those who have not been vaccinated to get vaccinated...
