Second measles warning for Christchurch in less than two weeks after child contracts virus
    9 Feb, 2018 5:19pm

Christchurch is facing its second measles warning in just over a week after an 11-year-old contracted the virus in a doctor's waiting room.

Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB) said the child got measles after coming into contact with a 30-year-old man who contracted the virus overseas.

CDHB's Community and Public Health team issued another measles warning on January 31 after a 30-year-old man was confirmed as having the virus.

The man attended Christchurch Hospital's emergency department on January 28. Patients and visitors to the hospital's emergency department on that day, who were not fully vaccinated, were advised to contact their doctor and get vaccinated urgently.

The Community and Public Health team is now warning that anyone who came into contact with the 11-year-old before they were diagnosed could be at risk of contracting measles.

The child went to a service at Our Lady of Victories Church at 6pm on February 3.

They were also at Nando's Restaurant in Sydenham between 5pm and 7pm on Waitangi Day and the Margaret Mahy Playground for a short period between 5pm and 10pm.

The child also attended two days of school and their medical practice...

Measles alert issued for passengers of Singapore Airlines flight SQ285
        28 Feb, 2018 12:26pm

An alert has been issued to recent passengers of a Singapore Airlines flight after they may have been exposed to a highly infectious virus.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service issued the alert after a person onboard an aircraft last Thursday was found to have measles.

Travellers who arrived at Auckland International Airport on Singapore Air flight SQ285 from Singapore, at 11.45am on February 22, may have been exposed to the virus, it said.

Passengers in rows 31 to 49 were closest to the measles case and are at highest risk, but any one on the flight should watch out for symptoms.

ARPHS is attempting to contact people seated close to the case.

"Although passengers in rows 31 to 49 are most exposed, there's a possibility of anyone on the flight, around the flight gate or baggage claim at this time, could have been infected,"...

Trio of measles infections in South Island all linked to Queenstown Airport
          1:25pm
          Source: NZN

Three cases of measles have turned up in the South Island in the last four days and and they all have Queenstown Airport in common.

The cases are in Queenstown, Wanaka and Christchurch and it's believed all are likely to have been with someone infected at Queenstown Airport between March 21 to 22, health officials say.

That person may have only been mildly ill and the incubation period from the contact has now passed.

None of the three known cases were immunised to measles so the Southern and Canterbury district health boards are working to identified who they have had contact with...

Measles outbreak now South Island wide
Canterbury DHB Wednesday, 11 April 2018, 4:43 pm
            Press Release: Canterbury DHB

Measles outbreak now South Island wide

Two further cases of measles have now been confirmed, one in Nelson and the other in Christchurch.

These are linked to the three cases notified late last week which were reported in Queenstown, Wanaka and Christchurch.

Given the geographical spread of those affected, Public Health officials across the South Island are urging anyone with symptoms suggestive of measles to phone for health advice in the first instance...

Along with confirmations in Queenstown, Wanaka and Nelson, there are two in Christchurch - the age ranges for those infected are 13 months to 46 years old - and infected patients have likely visited supermarkets, restaurants and campgrounds.

Canterbury Medical Officer of Health Dr Ramon Pink told Newshub the hunt is on for patient zero, trying to work out who brought the disease in.

"Because we don't know where the source of measles is, who the individual was that was infectious, we don't know where they may have travelled," he said.

The highly contagious virus first showed up at Queenstown Airport late last month...

Air NZ flights exposed to measles outbreak
                Newstalk ZB Staff,
                Saturday, 14 April 2018, 6:58AM

he Ministry of Health is warning families thinking of going overseas these school holidays, about how to prevent bringing measles back into the country.

The Ministry is warning people who are going overseas, that the risk of exposure to the disease is higher outside of New Zealand, so vaccinations are a good deterrent.

Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health Caroline McIlray says with school holidays coming up, children and families do go overseas more, which is a risk.

"What we're trying to do is make people more aware is that when you travel overseas, measles is a disease that you can pick up."

It comes after revelations a sixth person in the South Island has contracted the disease.

Health officials are warning people on two Air NZ flights they may have been exposed.
The latest case is a woman in her 20s who travelled while infectious on Air NZ Flight NZ 5642 from Queenstown to Christchurch departing 8.20am on April 7 and Air NZ Flight NZ 5653 from Christchurch to Queenstown departing 3pm on April 9.

Anyone who travelled on either of these flights should check their immunisation status with their GP...

A case of the measles may have left a contagious trail at five popular Hamilton stores.

A person who caught the virus overseas visited certain branches of Bunnings, New World and PAK'n'SAVE with the illness upon their return to New Zealand. They also went to Anglesea Pharmacy and Clean As Laundromat.

Customers who visited the stores during the same time bracket should check whether they are immune to the virus, the Waikato DHB said in a statement.

It's unrelated to the recent case in the South Island, according to the DHB.

Anyone who visited the following stores during these time periods are recommended to check their immune status with their General Practice.

Bunnings, Kahikatea Drive from April 10 to 14 April

New World, Glenview, April 12, from 10.15-10.45am and 8pm?8.20pm and 13 April 8pm-8.20pm

Medical authorities in Auckland say passengers on MH133 on April 15 should monitor for symptoms after one of them on the flight was infected.

PETALING JAYA: Authorities in New Zealand are attempting to contact passengers on a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland who may have been infected with measles.

This came about after an Aucklander on flight MH133 on April 15 began experiencing symptoms of the ailment during transit, Radio New Zealand (RNZ) reported today.
