Health Officials Worried by Measles Resurgence

Korea has lost its status as a country without measles less than one year after the disease was supposedly eradicated.
According to the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), the number of patients diagnosed with measles was 88 as of June 21.
Measles cases have been increasing among toddlers less than a year old since April.
Korea has failed to contain the disease below the level that the World Health Organization requires to be considered measles-free.
WHO regards a country measles-free when it keeps the rate of the disease under one per million.
Korean health authorities are now putting serious effort into preventing the spread of the disease, including launching a mass media campaign to promote vaccinations for children under six.
