The following is an urgent news release from Eastern Idaho Public Health:

EASTERN IDAHO (KIFI) — Eastern Idaho Public Health has reported a case of measles in an adolescent in Eastern Idaho. The adolescent was an international traveler who was unvaccinated against measles. This child was seen by a healthcare provider for symptoms of measles and was not hospitalized. The investigation is ongoing as EIPH is working to identify more details surrounding this case.

The case has self-isolated during the contagious period and is no longer contagious. EIPH does not expect exposure to the public, outside of household contacts who are currently being monitored for potential infection...

Measles reported in eastern Idaho, becoming state’s second case in one week
Cases in eastern Idaho and the North Idaho Panhandle are both in unvaccinated children — and the first in the regions in more than 30 years

The two new infections — both in unvaccinated children — are Idaho’s first measles cases since 2023, when an outbreak in southwest Idaho led to 10 infections. The new reports are the first measles cases recorded in local residents in eastern Idaho and the Panhandle area of North Idaho in more than three decades, local health officials say...

Officials from the Department of Health and Welfare (DHW) and Panhandle Health District (PHD) are announcing the third confirmed case of measles in an Idaho resident. This most recent case is an unvaccinated child in Bonner County. There is currently no known link between the Bonner County case and the Kootenai County case that was announced last week. One other case of measles was announced in Eastern Idaho this month as well.

“Without any link between these two confirmed cases in north Idaho or travel outside of their communities, it’s reasonable to suspect that there is more measles circulating,” said Dr. Christine Hahn, state epidemiologist and Division of Public Health medical director at DHW. “As we’ve seen with other states around the nation, cases can begin to multiply quickly.”..
