    COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSAV) — The South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) has confirmed the first case of measles Wednesday morning.

    SC health department reports 3rd case of measles in state this year

    COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed the third case of measles in the state since July.

    Officials said the patient is unvaccinated and did not have immunity from a previous measles infection.

    “They do not have a specific, known exposure to someone with measles, but they did have a recent international trip to a country with an ongoing measles outbreak and were not contagious while traveling,” the agency said in a release.​..

      South Carolina saw its fourth measles case in 2025, and residents could be at increasing risk during upcoming travel because of ongoing outbreaks in the U.S. and abroad, the state epidemiologist said.

      “This is a concern because we're seeing now more cases in the last few months in South Carolina than we had previously seen in the last seven years,” said Dr. Linda Bell of the state Department of Public Health.
