    Virginia Health Officials Investigating Potential Measles Exposure in Northern Virginia


    RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) was notified of a confirmed case of measles at Washington Dulles International Airport on Wednesday, March 5. The confirmed case was an individual who was returning from international travel. Health officials are coordinating an effort to identify people who might have been exposed, including contacting potentially exposed passengers on specific flights.

    Listed below is the date, time, and location of the potential exposure site:
    • Dulles International Airport (IAD): in Terminal A, on transportation to the main terminal and in the baggage claim area between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5.

    RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia health officials have released potential exposure sites after a teenager who recently traveled internationally was diagnosed with measles.

    Officials provided five potential exposure sites: the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport on Tuesday, May 20 between 2:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Play it Again Sports at 1885 Seminole Trail in Charlottesville on Tuesday, May 20 from 2:40 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Goodwill Store and Donation Center at 440 Gander Drive in Charlottesville on Tuesday, May 20 from 3:10 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., UVA Health Primary Care Riverside at 2335 Seminole Lane, Suite 200 in Charlottesville on Thursday, May 22 from 2 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. and UVA Health University Medical Center Emergency Department at 1215 Lee St. in Charlottesville on Friday, May 23 from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m.

    The child, who is between 13 and 17 years old, according to health department officials, lives in the state's Northwest Region. That includes the localities of Albemarle, Augusta, Bath, Buena Vista City, Caroline, Charlottesville, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Frederick, Fredericksburg, Greene, Harrisonburg, Highland, King George, Lexington, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, Orange, Page, Rappahannock, Rockbridge, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Staunton, Warren, Waynesboro and Winchester.

    This marks Virginia's second measles case for 2025.​..

      VPM News File The Virginia Department of Health is urging people who may have been exposed to a young child diagnosed with measles last week in Charlottesville to contact their health care providers.

      A young child was diagnosed in Charlottesville last week.

      Health officials have reported another case of measles — the third in the state this year — but said that it’s not time to panic.

      A child under the age of 4 was diagnosed through the University of Virginia Health System last Wednesday, confirmed Dr. Costi Sifri, UVA Health’s director of hospital epidemiology.

        The Virginia Department of Health has been notified of a confirmed case of measles at Dulles International Airport and the Washington metro area earlier this month.

        The patient is an international traveler visiting the D.C. area, the VDH said in a Saturday news release.

        Health officials are coordinating an effort to identify people who might have been exposed, including contacting potentially exposed passengers on specific flights.

        Listed below are the dates, times and locations of potential exposure sites, according to the VDH and the D.C. Department of Health:
        • Dulles International Airport (IAD) on June 8, Concourse A, on transportation to the International Arrivals Building and in the baggage claim area between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
        • Silver Line Train from the Dulles station on June 8, transferring at the Metro Center Station to the Red Line Train heading towards Shady Grove Station between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
        • The Russian School of Mathematics at 8401 Connecticut Ave. in Chevy Chase, Md., on June 8 from 3 to 6 p.m.
        • L8 Metrobus southbound to Friendship Heights on June 8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
        • H4 Metrobus Westbound to Tenleytown on June 12 from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
        • MedStar Health Pediatrics in Tenleytown at 4200 Wisconsin Ave. NW in D.C. on June 12 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

        To date in 2025, Virginia has three reported cases of measles.

            The Virginia Department of Health is reporting the state’s fourth measles case of the year. The patient is a school age child (5-12 years) in the Eastern Region who recently traveled internationally. To protect the family’s privacy, VDH will not provide any additional information about the patient, the press release said. Health officials are coordinating efforts to identify anyone who might have been exposed.

            Locations of the potential public exposure sites in Virginia:

            Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Health Center and Urgent Care at Loehmann’s Plaza, located at 3960 Virginia Beach Blvd. in Virginia Beach on Aug. 27 from 5-8:30 p.m.

              VDH investigating potential measles exposure in Central and Southwest Virginia

              RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is alerting residents to a potential measles exposure.

              According to a news release from VDH, a person with a confirmed case of measles who is a resident of another state visited Virginia while infectious.

              VDH's release says the person visited multiple locations in Central and Southwest Virginia. Locations and times for potential exposures are listed below:

              Home Depot, located at 250 Frank D. Harris Drive in South Hill, Friday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 7:30 p.m.
              Wagon Wheel Cafe, located at 408 Main St. in Kenbridge, Saturday, Dec. 6 from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
              Lynchburg Livestock Market, located at 243 Livestock Road in Rustburg, Monday, Dec. 8 from 3:15 to 6 p.m.
              McDonald’s, located at 11059 Wards Road, Rustburg, Monday, Dec. 8 from 4:15 to 6:30 p.m.​...
