    Ontario reports 182 new measles cases, surpassing 1,600 since outbreak began

    TORONTO — Health officials say measles has infected 182 more people in Ontario over the last week, bringing the province's case count to 1,622 since an outbreak began in October.

    Public Health Ontario's measles report says there have been 119 hospitalizations, including nine intensive care cases.

    Of those hospitalized, 95 per cent were unvaccinated, including 89 children.

    This is the third consecutive week Ontario is reporting that new cases are in the 200-range, which is on the higher end since experts started keeping track of weekly spread.

    Southwestern Public Health Unit’s Dr. Ninh Tran called the province's case count over the last few weeks "significant."...

      A mall in Brantford is among the latest potential measles exposure locations.

      Grand Erie Public Health added to their growing list of areas of concern on Thursday.

      The new additions include:

      Thrive AbleLiving (The Willett), 238 Grand River Street North in Paris – May 9 from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m.

      Lynden Park Mall Food Basics, 84 Lynden Road in Brantford – May 10 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

      Circle K/Esso, 433 Fairview Drive in Brantford – May 12 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

      According to a report released by Public Health Ontario, Grand Erie Public Health reported 222 confirmed or probable cases of measles since Oct. 28, 2024. The latest data represents an increase of 21 cases since May 6.​..

          Measles exposure reported at restaurant and concert hall in Ontario

          ​Public health officials are asking people to monitor for symptoms of measles after an individual with a confirmed case of the virus visited a restaurant and concert venue in Hamilton.

          Today, Hamilton Public Health Services said it’s investigating the possible exposures after a person who was not from the city visited CIMA Enoteca Restaurant (190 Locke St. S.) on May 2 from 7 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. and the First Ontario Centre Concert Hall (1 Summers Ln.) on May 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 12 a.m.​..

              The public health unit for the Region of Waterloo is warning of potential measles exposure at a Kitchener elementary school.

              At least one case has been linked to Franklin Public School.

              Public Health advises anyone who was at the school between May 12 to May 15, from 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., to monitor for measles symptoms until at least June 5.

              The Waterloo Region District School Board said the school remains open for in-person learning.

              Other schools in the region have also been listed as potential exposure sites:

              Eastwood Collegiate Institute – May 6 to May 8, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (monitor for symptoms until May 29)
              St. Mary’s High School – May 8 from 8:55 a.m. to 5 p.m. (monitor for symptoms until May 29)

                  More measles exposure points have been identified in Chatham-Kent.

                  Officials with Chatham-Kent Public Health say anyone who was at Chatham Chrysler on Richmond Street between 2:55pm until 5 on Friday, May 16 or the back hallway behind the emergency department at the Chatham campus of the Health Alliance from 4:15 until 8pm on Monday, May 19 may have been exposed to the virus.​..

                    Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) is reporting more possible measles exposure sites. According to a statement sent by HPPH on Friday, there were possible exposures at five sites in Stratford between May 13 and May 15.

                      Measles exposure confirmed at Ross Memorial Hospital Emergency Room: HKPR Health Unit issues warning

                      The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit has confirmed that members of the public may have been exposed to measles at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay.

                      In a statement Thursday, the health unit — now legally named Haliburton Kawartha Northumberland Peterborough Public Health (HKNP Public Health) — said an individual with a lab-confirmed case of measles visited the hospital’s emergency room on the evening of Monday, May 19th.

                      The individual, who is unvaccinated and not a resident of the HKPR region, was present in the emergency room waiting room and triage area between 7:02 p.m. and 9:46 p.m. HKNP Public Health says the infection was not acquired locally.​..

                          Region of Waterloo (ROW) Public Health says there’s been a measles exposure at Conestoga College.

                          Public health has been notified about a confirmed measles case at the Doon Campus in Kitchener last week.

                          The affected timeframe is Wednesday, May 21 between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and the specific location is classroom 2E06 on the 2nd floor of the E-wing in the Doon Main Building.

                          “Given how easily measles spreads, those who were present in classroom 2E06, at Starbucks or in any other classrooms/corridors on the 2nd floor of the E-Wing on May 21, 2025 between 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. are at risk of getting sick with measles and passing it to others,” said ROW Public Health in a release.

                            Peel Public Health is warning the public of multiple possible measles exposures after confirming two new, but unconnected, cases of the virus in the region.

                            The health agency put out a release Friday saying it was investigating the new cases and warning that anyone who was present at the following locations during the times listed may have been exposed to the disease.
