    Outbreak of scarlet fever hits St Winnow School

    PUPILS at a primary school have contracted scarlet fever ? a flu-like infection more common in this country in the 19th century than today.

    St Winnow Primary School in Lostwithiel has seen two pupils diagnosed with the infection.

    Cornwall's Primary Care Trust spokesman, Matt Lenny, said: "The school received reports of two children diagnosed with scarlet fever by GPs.

    "There were other children displaying symptoms. Fortunately it seems there are no new cases among teachers or pupils at the school."

    Mr Lenny said the trend in infectious diseases in this country was downwards.
