    Officials at the DeKalb County Health Department are asking residents to take preventative measures now that it confirmed two cases of pertussis in the community.

    The department is investigating two cases ? one a 12-year-old girl, the other an 11-year-old boy ? that were reported in the last week, DeKalb County Public Health Administrator Jane Lux said Thursday evening. The department learned of one case Dec. 29 and the second Tuesday, she said..

    In a previous story on whooping cough, we reported that Des Plaines was in the area of the state that has experienced the largest increase in reported cases of the disease, which is also known as pertussis.

    There have been six cases of whooping cough reported in Community Consolidated School District 62 so far this year, said Mindy Ward, director of community relations for the district. Ward said there were no cases reported in the 2010-2011 school year, and couldn?t recall a case being reported the year before that...

          WOODSTOCK ? The number of reported pertussis cases has continued to climb, albeit slower than it did during the initial outbreak.

          Pertussis cases in the county now number more than 300. In January, there were 273 cases.

          As of Friday, there were 313 reported pertussis cases, with 156 reported among children 10 and younger. There were two hospitalizations of infants 2 months old, but both have since recovered, McHenry County Department of Health officials said.

          ?This number is fluid as there are still more cases not yet entered in our database,? health department spokeswoman Debra Quackenbush said...

              Another five cases of whooping cough reported in Madison County

              EDWARDSVILLE -- While Madison County's "spike" in pertussis cases has slowed, health officials are still concerned about the sudden increase in so-called "whooping cough" cases.

              Another five cases of pertussis have been reported to the Madison County Health Department since the first 14 cases appeared almost overnight in late April. That makes 19 cases in Madison County just in April and May, when there were only 16 in all of 2011...

                  With more than four months lefts in 2012, Kane County so far has seen a 29.6 percent increase in the number of pertussis cases compared with all of 2011.

                  As of Aug. 6, Kane County has seen 70 cases in 2012 compared with 54 for all of last year. Statewide, numbers are serious, as well. The Kane County Health Department reported this week there have been 1,200 cases of whooping cough in 2012, compared with the 1,500 cases in all of 2011. The state?s figure from last year marked a 40 percent increase over cases reported in 2010...
