    At least 39 children under the age of five have died of whooping cough in the remote Papua New Guinean district of Goilala over the past month.

    The National reports more than 200 children have fallen ill following an outbreak of the disease in mid-March...

    PNG suspected whooping cough under control

    Health authorities in Papua New Guinea say a suspected outbreak of whooping cough is under control.

    The World Health Organisation says four children are confirmed to have died after contracting a damaging cough in the Central Province's remote Goilala district, north of Port Moresby.

    It's brought the spotlight back onto the country's poor rates of childhood immunisation.

      So after an initial report of 39 ARI deaths, the latest reports indicate only 4. Odd. Perhaps the situation was exaggerated to draw attention?

        The whooping cough outbreak in PNG's Madang Province which claimed 11 lives in March, is reported to have flared up again.

        The initial outbreak in a remote part of Bogia District which killed mostly children, had been contained...

          Seven confirmed whooping cough deaths in PNG

          Seven people, most of them young children, have died from whooping cough or pertussis in Papua New Guinea?s Madang province.

          The Secretary for Health says there?s an outbreak of the contagious disease in Bogia and the dead are mostly under five years old.

          Dr Clement Malau says there?s no further information about how many people are infected, but patrols have gone out to deal with the outbreak...
