    Two people hospitalized with symptoms of anthrax infection have died in Kazakhstan's central city of Qaraghandy.

    The Qaraghandy regional health directorate said on June 21 that a 50-year-old man and 33-year-old woman died.

    It said five other patients, including a 10-year-old boy with similar symptoms, remain in the hospital...

    Laboratory confirmed anthrax in meat of slaughtered cow in Karaganda region

    KARAGANDA. KAZINFORM Karaganda Regional Veterinary Laboratory confirmed anthrax in a meat of a sick cow slaughtered by the resident of Yerkindik settlement in Shet district. The National Veterinary Reference Centre, will also announce its results soon, Kazinform reports.

    As earlier reported, state of emergency was declared in Yerkindik settlement for suspected anthrax outbreak. All required quarantine and prevention activities are underway.

    According to reports, the villager slaughtered the sick cow and gave its meat to neighbors and relatives.

    As the Regional Healthcare Department informed, 8 people including a 10-year-old child suspected in contamination with anthrax were taken to the Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital from June 19 to 21. Two of them ? a 33-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man ? died. All of them are the residents of Yerkindik settlement.

      Kazakh Officials Confirm Second Anthrax Outbreak In A Week
      June 24, 2016

      Kazakh authorities say an outbreak of anthrax has been confirmed in the eastern part of the country -- the second outbreak to infect villagers in Kazakhstan within a week.

      Kazakh Health Minister Tamara Duisenova said on June 24 that two residents in village of Kolbatau, in East Kazakhstan Oblast, have tested anthrax positive.

      Officials confirmed on June 22 that two villagers in Kazakhstan's central region of Qaraghandy had died from anthrax infections, and that six people were hospitalized with the deadly disease.

      Duisenova on June 24 said seven people had been diagnosed with anthrax and were being treated at Qaraghandy's city hospital...
