Articles detailed below report that Mr. Gaylord did seek treatment in a timely fashion, but the Veteran's Administration hospital said they could not see him for a week. Then when he went to an urgent care clinic the next day, he was misdiagnosed with cat scratch fever. It's tragic because I would expect the VA doctors to be more experienced with rare diseases, so if they had seen Mr. Gaylord immediately, his outcome might have been much better. His friend's experience supports that possibility.
