وأعلن أمين أباظة، وزير الزراعة، أن قرار ذبح الخنازير بدلاً من إعدامها يعنى أنه لن تكون هناك تعويضات لأصحاب القطعان، وأضاف أباظة إن حملات ذبح الخنازير سوف تركز على المزارع المحيطة بالقاهرة الكبرى، ورغم أن معظم دول العالم لم تتخذ قرارات حتى الآن لذبح أو إعدام الخنازير، فإن الحكومة المصرية فضلت اتخاذ إجراءات احتياطية واحترازية لمنع وصول الفيروس إلى مصر.
