I have no idea. One large pig farm to consolidate relocation from other farms is due to open on May 15th.

        From 2nd article linked above:

"..Studies that the pig farms of the most important causes for the transfer of bird flu..."

In Japan they are attemping to prevent the spread of H7 bird flu influenza to nearby poultry farms by spraying calcium hydroxide. Seems they are concerned about mice too:

Shigeru Shimizu, CEO of the poultry farm (52) "Prevention of infection in mice and hydrated lime can be expected. To strict measures to prevent infection from wild birds and humans," he said.

The above statement may help readers understand the reason why the two cases in Beheira represent toddler to toddler transmission of H5N1.

The samples tested from patients in Egypt are from patients with symptoms and claimed exposure to dead or dying poultry. As seen by the above statement, the testing of these patients is almost always negative.

However, samples from one toddler from Behiera who developed symptoms March 27 was positive. That was followed by another toddler from Beihera who developed symptoms four days later on March 1. Not only were both of the cases from Bethera, but they were from the same small district in Beheira and in fact were from next door neighbors. In addition, the next door neighbors were cousins.

Thus, there is little doubt that the two cases were connected, either through a common source (dead or dying poultry that was claimed, but no H5N1 in poultry anywhere near the cluster has been reported, even though there was aggressive canvassing of the area), or through toddler to toddler transmission.

If there was H5N1 in poultry, the distinction between a common source (both toddlers playing with poultry) or T2T (the toddler with symptoms on March 27 infecting his cousin who lives next door and developed symptoms April 1) is determined by disease onset dates (since the sequences are likely to be the same regardless of source for the second toddler).

These two possibilities are viewed with regard to the time gap between disease onset dates.

A common source produces a very small time gap, because the range in incubation times is small (2-4 days) and therefore common source infections produce symptom on the same day, or within a day or two.

T2T produces a time gap because the index case is more contagious after symptoms develop, so the incubation time produces a time gap between symptoms in the index case and symptoms in the cousin he infected, as demonstrated by the 4 day gap.

This gap in disease onset dates is common among H5N1 clusters. When the transmission is H2H2H, the consecutive gaps limit the amount of hand waving and ad hoc arguments. The sequences from patients from H2H2H clusters do not have distinctive genetic changes not found is H2H clusters, and ad hoc arguments trying to explain away gaps were unlikely when used in 2004 and the dozens of clusters since. The characteristic time gap is found again and again, and the hand waving/ad hoc arguments are nothing more than hopes and dreams with no scientific basis.
