WHO has for a 2nd time unnecessarily omitted 1 day of Liberia data, in this case Sep. 6, the day with 70 new cases, the highest Liberian daily case increase so far recorded:

Liberian MOHsw has had the Sep. 6 data available since Sep. 6. SEE Suspected, Probable and Confirmed cases of 39, 25 and 6 (70):

Corrected 3 country new case totals for WHO's 6 day Sep. 6 data should be 4269 plus 70 = 4339 cases, up 654 from the previous 3685, which indicates a 109 new case/day average for WHO's Sep. 1-6 data, and a doubling period for WHO's corrected 4339 case total of 40 days.

I'll follow up and see what WHO adds back in their next report to "adjust" for today's omission of Liberia's 70 new cases in their 9-6 data.

Is there a reason for WHO's continued irregular and incomplete reporting?

Is there a reason for WHO's continued irregular and incomplete reporting?

There is nothing sinister about the differential reporting dates for case counts by the World Health Organization (WHO). WHO is dependent on receiving official reports from its member states and may have different reporting periods for different countries. For example, in the Disease Outbreak News on June 18, 2014, WHO notes that the Ebola case reporting periods varied for each country. For Guinea the reporting period was June 14-16, for Sierra Leone it was June 15-17, and for Liberia it was June 11-16, 2014.

In this crisis we should be thankful that WHO is taking the time to clearly distinguish the reporting periods in their cumulative summaries.
