Kimberly Blair: Beach hit with tar balls after Tropical Storm Debby

Tropical Storm Debby?s rough surf uncovered and washed ashore hundreds of tar balls onto area beaches that seem like they may be from the BP oil spill of April 2010.
Keith Wilkins, Escambia County environment and community director, said in one day, about 50 pounds of tar balls washed up at Pensacola Beach, Johnson Beach and Perdido Key.
BP cleanup crews were quick to mobilize and clean them up, he said.
Wilkins said he?s not surprised that the storm churned up tar balls. The county has long suspected tar mats that washed in about this time two years ago are submerged in sand bars along the shoreline.
