    he following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

    The spokesperson for Princess Margaret Hospital made the following announcement today (January 20):

    Three patients (aged 71 to 89) in a female medical and geriatric ward at Lai King Building have presented with upper respiratory symptoms since January 19. Appropriate viral tests were arranged and the test results were positive for Influenza A. All of the patients are being treated under isolation with stable condition.

    The hospital has stepped up infection control measures in the ward and the conditions of other patients are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.

    Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients in a female medical and geriatric ward at Lai King Building infected with Influenza A, the spokesperson for Princess Margaret Hospital gave the following update today (January 22):

    One more female patient, aged 94, had presented with respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral tests were arranged for the patient and the test result was positive for Influenza A. The patient concerned is being treated under isolation with stable condition.

    The hospital has stepped up the infection control measures in the ward and the conditions of the other patients are under close surveillance.

    The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
