    Import of poultry meat and products from areas in US suspended​

    The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (March 23) that in view of notifications from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Orange County of the State of Florida, Walworth County of the State of Wisconsin and Crawford County of the State of Indiana in the United States (US), the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the above-mentioned areas with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

    A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 54 830 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 4.33 million poultry eggs from the US last year.

    "The CFS has contacted the American authority over the issues and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreaks. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.​

      Import of poultry meat and products from Brzeziny District of Łódzkie Region in Poland suspended​

      The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (March 24) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Brzeziny District of the Łódzkie Region in Poland, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

      A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 2 890 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Poland last year.

      "The CFS has contacted the Polish authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreak. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.​

        Import of poultry meat and products from District of Elbe-Elster of State of Brandenburg in Germany suspended​

        The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (March 25) that in view of a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the District of Elbe-Elster of the State of Brandenburg in Germany, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

        A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 180 tonnes of frozen poultry meat from Germany last year.

        "The CFS has contacted the German authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the WOAH and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreak. Appropriate action will be taken in response to the development of the situation," the spokesman said.​

          Import of poultry meat and products from Miyagi Prefecture in Japan suspended​

          The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (March 26) that in view of a notification from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 avian influenza in Miyagi Prefecture in Japan, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the area with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.

          A CFS spokesman said that according to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 2 390 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and about 297.92 million poultry eggs from Japan last year.

          "The CFS has contacted the Japanese authority over the issue and will closely monitor information issued by the World Organisation for Animal Health and the relevant authorities on the avian influenza outbreak.             The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (March 27) that in view of notifications from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of Korea about an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Province of Arezzo of the Toscana Region in Italy, and outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in areas in Korea respectively, the CFS has instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and products (including poultry eggs) from the relevant areas with immediate effect to protect public health in Hong Kong.​
