Yunnan Net News (Reporter Peng Xi) With the arrival of the autumn and winter flu season, the number of children with influenza at Kunming Children's Hospital has surged recently. On October 30th, the reporter learned from the hospital that many children required hospitalization because their parents mistakenly treated the flu for a common cold, delaying treatment and increasing the burden on their families. In response, the Yunnan Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention and pediatric experts jointly remind the public that influenza prevention in children should prioritize prevention, and vaccination is the most economical and effective method. Currently, the province has sufficient vaccine reserves, and citizens can conveniently book vaccinations online.
Liu Kai, director of the Department of Pediatric Internal Medicine at Kunming Children's Hospital, explained that influenza differs significantly from the common cold. Influenza is caused by influenza A and B viruses and is highly contagious. Children infected with influenza often experience high fever above 39°C, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as muscle pain and headache. Some children may also experience gastrointestinal reactions such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. In contrast, the symptoms of the common cold are milder, mainly consisting of runny nose and cough, without significant systemic discomfort.
