    April 22, 2024 10:26

      As the temperature gradually rises
Kittens and puppies also enter estrus and molt period
      Easily agitated and aggressive
In addition, people's clothing is gradually becoming thinner
Cats and dogs have entered a period of high incidence of injuries to humans
The dangers posed by these small wounds are extremely high
      May cause dangerous rabies

Once an attack occurs, there is no effective treatment
The case fatality rate is almost 100%
According to the First People's Hospital of Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, the average daily number of visits to the hospital's dog injury clinic has recently reached about 150, nearly half more than usual. Doctors remind the general public to try to avoid places with many cats, dogs and other pets during outdoor activities, and do not pet pets that are unfamiliar to them. When taking children out, they should always keep a certain distance from cats, dogs and other pets.
      48-year-old man diagnosed with rabies
      Died unfortunately 3 days later
According to the First People's Hospital of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, the hospital recently received a 48-year-old patient, Master Yang (pseudonym). As soon as he arrived at the outpatient hall, he became restless, found an unoccupied corner, curled up, and spat everywhere. He refused to come out until the doctor called him. Master Yang said that he has been suffering from low-grade fever recently, with a tightness in his throat, and a gust of wind that feels like it's going to penetrate into his bones. He can't eat or sleep.
When the infectious disease doctor saw his symptoms and felt bad, he immediately asked if he had been in contact with cats, dogs and other animals, or had been bitten. Master Yang said that he was indeed scratched by a dog, but it was not serious at the time, so he didn't take it seriously, and he did not receive rabies vaccination. The doctor judged that Master Yang probably had "rabies".
After NGS examination of cerebrospinal fluid, Master Yang was diagnosed with "rabies". But even if the cause is found, it's too late. Three days later, the doctor returned to visit the patient and received the news that Master Yang had passed away.
Is there no cure for rabies once it attacks?
Huang Wenbao, deputy chief physician of the Department of Infectious Diseases of Hangzhou First People's Hospital, said that rabies is an acute infectious disease that is common to humans and animals and is caused by the rabies virus. It is infected through exposure to saliva or other substances containing the virus and can be transmitted from animals to humans. animals, or transmitted from animals to humans. This disease is currently preventable but not curable.
Doctors say that the most important reason why rabies is so scary is that it has a very high fatality rate. The global mortality rate of rabies is approximately 99%, that is, approximately 99 out of 100 infected people will eventually die.
The main clinical manifestations of rabies are high fear, mania, fear of water, wind, light, sound, etc. Symptoms such as throat muscle spasm, drooling, paralysis, and respiratory center paralysis gradually appear.
The incubation period of rabies varies, and the onset of rabies usually occurs within 1 to 3 months. In some individuals, the incubation period may exceed 1 year.
Once bitten by a cat or dog, please seek medical attention as soon as possible
"At present, prevention of rabies is the most important thing. Once bitten by a cat or dog, you should clean the wound as soon as possible and rinse it with soapy water or clean water. Go to the nearest hospital as soon as possible to get a rabies vaccine. If you are scratched or scratched by a stray cat or dog, "In addition to rabies vaccination, rabies immune globulin must be injected," said Xu Xiang, an infectious disease doctor at a hospital in Hangzhou.
Rabies vaccination should be administered within 24 hours after being bitten and scratched, and generally within six months of the vaccination. If you are bitten by a suspicious animal again, no further injection is required. If it exceeds six months, you will need a booster injection if you are bitten again.
What is the source of rabies infection?
Dogs are the main source of rabies infection in my country, accounting for more than 95%, followed by cats.
Wild or stray carnivorous mammals have a high risk of transmission. Ferrets, badgers, foxes, raccoon dogs, and wolves are important sources of wild animal infections in my country.
Bats are high-risk animals for transmitting rabies.
The risk of bites from domestic animals such as cattle, sheep, horses, and pigs, and rodents such as rabbits and rats, is low.
Animals such as poultry, fish, insects, lizards, turtles, snakes, etc. are not infected with and transmit rabies virus.
There are many misunderstandings about rabies
      Don’t take chances
Some people think that if you are scratched or bitten by an animal, it will be fine as long as there is no bleeding. Is this true?

Wang Chuanlin, chief physician of the emergency surgery department at Peking University People's Hospital, said that many people mistakenly believe that small wounds without obvious bleeding need not be treated. But it is actually not safe. You need to wash the wound carefully and get a rabies vaccine.
And it’s not just rabid animals that carry the virus. The saliva of seemingly healthy dogs, cats, and other animals can also contain rabies virus. If you are accidentally scratched and bitten, you may also be infected with the virus.
According to experts, rabies virus can enter wounds through saliva and cause viral infection. Therefore, if the skin is scratched during contact with animals, or animal saliva comes into contact with the skin and mucous membranes, or the wound is licked by an animal, standardized rabies treatment and rabies vaccine are required. Vaccination should be done as early as possible, the earlier the better.
It is worth noting that after a patient is injured by an animal, he not only needs to prevent rabies, but also prevents wound infection. Since injuries caused by animals are a high-risk exposure to tetanus, it is even more necessary to prevent tetanus.
