It is still an awful virus. For some people, in some waves, it is mild. For others - people with undiagnosed problems, seniors, chronically ill, vulnerable, it is still deadly. And for others one bad COVID-19 infection can lead to conditions that appear to linger for years. It is not a cold. It is much more neurological and vascular.

Leaked Documents Show How China’s Army of Paid Internet Trolls Helped Censor the Coronavirus

As the coronavirus spread in China, the government stage-managed what appeared on the domestic internet to make the virus look less severe and the authorities more capable, according to thousands of leaked directives and other files.

The CAC’s coronavirus controls began in the first week of January. An agency directive ordered news websites to use only government-published material and not to draw any parallels with the deadly SARS outbreak in China and elsewhere that began in 2002, even as the World Health Organization was noting the similarities.

At the start of February, a high-level meeting led by Xi called for tighter management of digital media, and the CAC’s offices across the country swung into action. A directive in Zhejiang Province, whose capital is Hangzhou, said the agency should not only control the message within China, but also seek to “actively influence international opinion.”

Agency workers began receiving links to virus-related articles that they were to promote on local news aggregators and social media. Directives specified which links should be featured on news sites’ home screens, how many hours they should remain online and even which headlines should appear in boldface.

China - The Wuhan files Leaked documents reveal China's mishandling of the early stages of Covid-19 - November 30, 2020

    The Wuhan files

Leaked documents reveal China's mishandling of the early stages of Covid-19

Exclusive by Nick Paton Walsh, CNN

Updated 7:05 PM ET, Mon November 30, 2020

    snip

That same day, Chinese authorities reported 2,478 new confirmed cases -- raising the total global number to more than 40,000, with fewer than 400 cases occurring outside of mainland China. Yet CNN can now reveal how official documents circulated internally show that this was only part of the picture.

In a report marked "internal document, please keep confidential," local health authorities in the province of Hubei, where the virus was first detected, list a total of 5,918 newly detected cases on February 10, more than double the official public number of confirmed cases, breaking down the total into a variety of subcategories. This larger figure was never fully revealed at that time, as China's accounting system seemed, in the tumult of the early weeks of the pandemic, to downplay the severity of the outbreak.

The previously undisclosed figure is among a string of revelations contained within 117 pages of leaked documents from the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, shared with and verified by CNN.

Taken together, the documents amount to the most significant leak from inside China since the beginning of the pandemic and provide the first clear window into what local authorities knew internally and when.

The initial Wuhan coronavirus test was released on December 27: it was a sample of alveolar lavage fluid from a 65-year-old
man who was hospitalized on December 15 at Wuhan Central Hospital.
    ...
The Guangzhou Weiyuan Gene Laboratory assembled a nearly complete viral genome sequence that day, and the data was also
shared with the Institute of Pathogens of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. "You can basically confirm that there is a
new virus similar to Bat SARS like coronavirus in the patient's sample."

A city 1000km from Wuhan just declared a full lockdown

(SNIP) .... The city of Shantou on the southern coast of China in Guangdong province has announced it will be the first outside of Hubei province to go on lockdown.

That means no individual, vehicle or boat will be allowed to entering the city beginning on January 27. What's different here is that Hubei cities are preventing people from leaving; in Shantou, they're baring them from entering.

When will the new pneumonia epidemic prevention and control be effective? -Virology experts talk about epidemic prevention and control

    2020-01-26 12 : 17 : 17Source : Xinhuanet

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, January 26th,

Question: When will the new pneumonia epidemic prevention and control be effective? -Virology experts talk about epidemic prevention and control

      Xinhua News Agency reporter

387 railway stations carried out temperature measurement and screening, increased epidemic prevention and control efforts in various places, and emergency deployment of various resources to support Wuhan ... In the Spring Festival holiday of the Gengzi year, a new coronavirus-infected pneumonia epidemic prevention campaign has begun. It is not difficult to prevent and control. When the prevention and control measures take effect, it has become a hot issue that people care about.

"Controlling the entry and exit of Wuhan personnel and less public access are good social measures." Wen Yumei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor of the Ministry of Education / Fujian Health and Medical Committee Key Laboratory of Medical Molecular Virology of Fudan University believes that it is adopted in the general population. After certain measures are taken, the epidemic situation should be able to be controlled step by step, and it needs a process. The number of confirmed cases now is because some people have been infected more than twenty days ago, and the measures now taken are to prevent possible secondary or tertiary infections in the future. Therefore, in general, the spread of the epidemic will decrease after about 20 days.

"Not everyone will be infected, and a small number of people will be infected." Wen Yumei said that the current measures will see results in more than 20 days, and I believe that the epidemic will be well controlled by then. During the epidemic of disease, the human body will inevitably produce immunity against the microorganism, the immune capacity of the population will increase, and the epidemic will eventually end.

Disease control and medical experts believe that as long as scientific control and accurate policy implementation, epidemic prevention and control will definitely be won. However, experts admit that there is a certain degree of difficulty in prevention and control, and the enemy cannot be underestimated.

Li Taisheng, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, has been involved in the prevention and control of SARS since January 2003, and has a good understanding of coronavirus. In his view, pneumonitis infected by the new coronavirus does not progress as quickly as SARS. "The average incubation period of SARS virus is 6 days, while the new coronavirus is 9 days, which makes it very difficult to prevent and control."

Li Taisheng said, according to common sense, the shorter the incubation period of a virus, the stronger its virulence and the greater the number of pathogens. However, according to the data released now, the severity of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus is not at all lower than that of SARS, which is very unusual.

Cao Wei, deputy director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, believes that from the case spread outside Hubei Province, the mortality rate of pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus infection is lower than that of SARS, with a large proportion of mild patients. Since there are no typical symptoms during the incubation period and it is contagious, it brings certain difficulties to prevention and control.

Joint prevention and control is not only a matter for government departments and medical and scientific research institutions. Everyone's participation is the real "joint prevention and control." In a few days, the return passenger flow for the Spring Festival is coming. The large-scale movement of personnel has put forward new requirements for prevention and control.

Experts suggest that those who come back from Wuhan or have come in contact with Wuhan returnees should be isolated. Avoid contact with others during quarantine to prevent spreading the virus to family, colleagues, and friends.

Professor Bai Chunxue of the Shanghai Institute of Respiratory Diseases and the Institute of Respiratory Diseases of Fudan University believes that "isolation" and "keep away" are also keywords for the prevention of infection with the new coronavirus. "If a virus carrier has two weeks without contact with other people, the threat posed by the virus will disappear a lot."

In his view, "isolation" and "away" should be done: not to go to the epidemic area; not to contact the people in the epidemic area, or even relatives who have been in contact with it; keep a distance with others, and it is best to wear a mask 3 meters away Above; avoid any social activities where possible.

Panic does not help defeat the disease. Wen Yumei said that it is necessary to face the epidemic scientifically and calmly, and take personal protection. "Do n’t think that your body is fine, do n’t wear a mask." At the same time, you do n’t need to panic too much. Coronaviruses have flooded into medical institutions, which not only caused an excessive medical burden, but also increased the possibility of cross-infection. "Severely ill patients often have other diseases of their own, and their immune function is abnormal. Most infected people have normal immune function and will gradually recover." (Reporter Tian Xiaohang, Wang Bingyang, Wen Jinghua, Qu Ting)

A city of FIVE million ... TWO are confirmed and it goes into lockdown! Tell me again why we're wondering about what's REALLY going on over there. How many are sick, then, to make them do this.
