On July 4, the 2024 Sichuan-Chongqing Unexplained Pneumonia Emergency Drill was held in Zigong City, Sichuan Province. More than 360 people from Sichuan Provincial Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Team and Emergency Medical Rescue Team, Mianyang City, Zigong City, Yibin City, Luzhou City, Neijiang City and Chongqing Jiangjin District, Yongchuan District, Rongchang District, Qijiang District and other 10 city (district) infectious disease prevention and control teams participated in the drill.

"Wang, a 50-year-old male resident of a community in Gongjing District, Zigong City, developed chills and fever on July 2 without obvious cause, with a body temperature of 39.3°C, accompanied by headache, general discomfort, chest tightness, palpitations, cough and sputum..."
At the beginning of the drill, a patient suspected of pneumonia of unknown cause was found. He went to the community hospital for fever and cough, and the doctor prescribed medicine before returning. His symptoms worsened, so he went to Gongjing District Hospital for a second time. The hospital experts consulted and determined that it was a case of pneumonia of unknown cause. The case was immediately reported to the Gongjing District Health and Health Bureau and the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Municipal Infectious Disease Hospital was contacted for transfer.
After the diagnosis, the drill of sampling patients began. The sample delivery personnel put the samples into the temperature-controlled cargo box and then put them into the drone. After the drone self-checked, the background system controlled the drone to take off autonomously. A drone took off urgently and sent the samples collected from the patients to the Zigong Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
"The flight distance from the drill site to the Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention is 8.8 kilometers, and the flight time is only 11 minutes. In comparison, if vehicle transportation is used, even under the best road conditions and using the shortest route, it will take about 22 minutes," explained the on-site commentator.
In a scenario drill in the early stage of the disposal, drones were also put to good use. In this scenario, drones were deployed to conduct comprehensive disinfection of live poultry transfer stations, open-air garbage dumps, ditches, and piles of debris that are difficult for people to enter.
It is understood that the high-altitude operation capability of drones enables a wider disinfection range and higher efficiency, with the disinfection spraying area reaching 120,000 square meters per hour.
