Shanghai searching for healthy H7N9 carriers
Shanghai authorities are searching for people infected with the H7N9 bird flu virus who do not display the disease's symptoms.
An official at the Shanghai Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention spoke to NHK.
He said some of the infected have become seriously ill while others remain healthy. He said this may be linked to an individual's constitution and immune system.
The official explained there may be a large number of infected people who are still healthy.
He said investigators are studying whether workers at virus-infected marketplaces caught the disease.
They are also surveying people who came in contact with patients, monitoring their bloodstream for changes to antibody levels.
