The H7N9 strain of avian influenza has been found in several samples taken at a restaurant and near traditional markets in Guangzhou and Shantou in southern China's Guangdong province. The restaurant has been sterilized by local government agencies and since resumed operations, reports Southcn.com, a Guangdong-based news website.
Three of the 17 samples taken in Ying Fu Ge, a restaurant in Guangzhou's Haizhu district, tested positive for the virus after four samples taken from outside traditional markets in the city's Zecheng and Zhuhan district were likewise confirmed to bear traces of H7N9.
Two of three samples found in the restaurant were taken from poultry and another on a chopping board in the kitchen, said the city's disease control center.
