    The Health Bureau said that according to the latest notification from the mainland health department, there were 5 new confirmed cases of human infection with H5N6 and 4 confirmed cases of human infection with H9N2 avian influenza in the mainland. The Health Bureau urges residents to avoid contact with poultry and pay attention to personal and food hygiene.

    According to the data, among the 5 confirmed cases of human infection with H5N6 avian influenza, 4 were male and 1 female, aged from 28 to 75 years old, 2 were from Liuzhou City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, 2 were from Leshan City and Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, The case is from Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province; 2 people died, 2 people are in critical condition and 1 person is in serious condition; all the patients had contact with poultry before they became ill.

    Among the 4 confirmed cases of human infection with H9N2 avian influenza, 1 male and 3 females, aged from 3 to 14 years old, were 2 from Huanggang City, Hubei Province, 1 from Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and 1 from Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province. 4 were mildly ill; all had contact with poultry or visited live poultry markets before the onset of symptoms.

    Since April 2014, there have been confirmed cases of H5N6 or H9N2 avian influenza in Sichuan, Guangdong, Yunnan, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Jiangsu respectively.

    The Health Bureau will continue to maintain close contact with the health departments of the country and neighboring regions, as well as the World Health Organization, and closely monitor the epidemic situation in various places and Macao. To prevent human infection with avian influenza, the Health Bureau urges the public to pay attention to the following...

    Waiting for the Hong Kong CHP to issue their statement....if this holds true.... the avian flu total of 10 so far, including H5N6 link, for January is the largest amount I have ever seen announced for any one month in China except during the H7N9 outbreaks of 2013-2017 link.

    63) Male, 28, retroactively announced in 2022, onset December 23, hospitalized December 23, critical, Liuzhou, Guangxi Province

    I am wondering if these announcements are timed to take some attention away from the expanding COVID-19 situation in China? link I have always thought China was under reported their human avian flu cases - especially in the cold Winter months. Now we might be seeing something closer to reality with the 10 announced so far in 2022.

        The weekly HK avian flu report (Jan. 9,2022 - Jan. 15, 2022 Table 7) identifies the H9N2 cases reported by the Macau Health Bureau. These are:

        Hubei Province:
        A 3-year-old girl with onset on December 7, 2021.
        A 3-year-old boy with onset on December 13, 2021.

        Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region:
        A 14- year-old girl with onset on December 9, 2021.

        Jiangsu Province:
        A 7-year-old girl with onset on November 27, 2021.
