We are at a propitious time to get influenza, an infection (viral), highly contagious respiratory tract that affects both men and women at any age but more likely are children and the elderly.
This is a viral infection that primarily affects the nose, throat, bronchi and, occasionally, lungs. Experts say that usually lasts a week or two and is characterized by sudden onset of high fever, muscle aches, headache, malaise and a dry cough, sore throat and rhinitis.
It is said that this virus is most common between the months of November through April and late December and early March. Be very careful not to confuse it with a cold because the flu is stronger: the typical symptom is sneezing, while for the cold is a stuffy nose.
The virus is easily transmitted from person to person via virus-laden droplets (from saliva, nasal and bronchial secretions), emitted by coughing or sneezing, or just to talk. It is also transmissible by blood and by the surfaces or objects contaminated with the virus and small particles expelled by coughing or sneezing. Tends to spread rapidly in seasonal epidemics.
These viruses are more resistant to cold and dry environment can retain their infectivity for a week at human body temperature for 30 days at 0 ? C and much longer at lower temperatures. Not forgetting that can be easily inactivated by detergents or disinfectants.
