July 2, 2020 Belize reports no documented community transmission
                  COVID-19

We have reached a 100 days since we announced our first case of COVID-19 and so far we haven’t had community transmission documented. We therefore acknowledge that any success in the numbers is due to the community and government’s response.

As we move on, let’s continue to be safe and exercise all prevention measures for our common good.

July 3, 2020. Belize reports 30 cases and 2 deaths
A further 77 samples were processed today for SARS CoV2, this has allowed us to identify a further two cases bringing our total to 30.
These last two cases are that of a male and female, Belizeans caught entering the border illegally via La Union. They are asymptomatic and have been in the mandatory quarantine area from when they were caught.
We therefore have 9 active cases that have been and remain under quarantine, 8 Belizeans and one Honduran.
                    New cases: 2
                    Active cases: 9
Total cases: 30, 15 women and 15 men
                    Deaths: 2
                    Under investigation: 1

Belize update from Facebook earlier this afternoon July 5, 2020 Belize: 30 cases and 2 deaths
                      COVID-19 UPDATE

A quick recap of where our last 12 cases have come from as they are considered 'imported' cases and underscores why we need a collective and community response in COVID-19.

Countries of origin of foreign travel:

                      5 from USA
                      4 from Mexico
                      2 from Honduras
                      1 from Guatemala

10 of the 12 cases are in Belizeans and only 2 from foreigners caught illegally in Belize (1 from Honduras and 1 from Guatemala).
7 out of 12 cases are part of the repatriation process and 5 have been in border jumpers (2 foreigners and 3 Belizeans).
We need to continue to remain vigilant with the illegal crossings and from the Ministry of Health standpoint, we intend to enhance our surveillance further in these border communities but we need a community response if we are to successfully contain further cases of COVID-19.

July 10, 2020 Belize reports cases and deaths
A post from Facebook last night (July 9)
                          COVID-19 UPDATE

Given the increasing number of samples that require processing, another set was tested today.

That has allowed us to identify a further 3 cases, they are all minors and are members of a family who had been illegally across the border. The 3 new cases are in Orange Walk bringing their total to 7.

We had one case recovered so we have a total of 11 active cases.
While we acknowledge a general concern with the airport’s opening in August, we at health remain very much concerned with the ongoing illegals crossings at the Northern, Western and Southern entry points.
All border communities are therefore being asked to remain extra vigilant and to report any suspicious case as we are now anticipating clusters in these communities at the rate we are going.
                          Continue to remain safe!

                          New cases: 3
                          Active Cases: 11
                          Under investigation:74
                          Total cases: 33
                          Deaths: 2
                          Recovered: 20
                          Tests: 2499

Belize reports 39 cases and 2 deaths

                                COVID-19 UPDATE https://www.facebook.com/dhsbelize/p...type=3&theater

A further 88 samples were processed today, some of these included the initial set of samples picked up from contact tracing and the mapping exercise done over the weekend linked to the last 7 cases. These samples have returned negative, however, the further mapping of these cases is ongoing.

We however have identified two other cases as reactive for SARS-CoV2:

                                - A case in a returning male on the repatriation flight that arrived on Friday, July 10th. He is under quarantine at a hotel and is asymptomatic.

                                - A second case in a male in his 50's who was seen as a patient at the San Ignacio Community Hospital over the weekend with gastrointestinal symptoms and a loss of sense of taste. The patient was discharged to self-isolate home. The patient has improved clinically and remains in isolation at home. The contact tracing for this last case is currently ongoing.

We have recovered a case so we have a total of 16 active cases.

                                Total cases: 39
