    Gordon Grant

GRANT, Gordon V. Ret'd Canadian Press Ret'd Professor, Algonquin College It is with profound sadness and aching hearts we announce the peaceful passing at the Civic Hospital, ICU, of Gordon Grant, surrounded by the love of his family. Affectionately known as "Gordo or Gordie"; a Professor of Life, Master of Diction and Perfected Wordsmith, he was born on Sept. 28th, 1936, in Salford, England, and now eternally rests in Ottawa, Ontario. Gord left this world peacefully in his sleep on December 12, 2009, at 1:35 a.m. after succumbing to H1N1 and five weeks in ICU. Cherished husband, Gordon is survived by the love of his life and soul mate, Janet P. Smith. Loving father of Dave Grant and his wife Andrea Vetere of Whitby, and Gayle Grant of Brooklin. Proud grandfather of Christian and Chloe Grant and Michael Grant Norn. Loving brother of Beryl Carson, and her husband Richard, and Margaret Secola of Aurora. Also forever missed by his former workmates at The Canadian Press, former colleagues and students at Algonquin College, and his fellow Solsticians. Predeceased by his parents, Doris and Harry. Gord's passions were golf, reading, writing and getting the very best out of people. He leaves behind a legacy of mentorships, teachings and apprenticeships. The family would like to thank the incredible ICU team of doctors and nurses at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their compassion and special care. He was proud of his best friend, Janet, his wife of nearly 27 years, as well as his loving family, caring friends and learned proteges. Gordo, we remember your warm smile, loving heart, and generous and joyful spirit. You will be missed, but never forgotten and talked about often. Visitations for Gord will be held in Ottawa at Tubman Funeral Home, 403 Richmond Road, Westboro location, Thursday, December 17th between the hours of 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 9 p.m. For those who wish to offer condolences and/or stories, do so at www.feckless.ca . Donations in Gordon's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
