Summary:
No NL influenza samples were tested at the National Microbiology
Lab in week 17. The NL sentinel ILI consultation rate decreased. Influenza outbreaks were reported in two RHAs (LTC facility in Western; Community in Eastern).

0 samples were tested for influenza this week in NL 203 lab-confirmed cases of influenza have been reported since Oct. 1st, 2010 187 were type A (114 H3N2, 6 H1N1, 67 untyped); 16 were type B Week : N/A (%pos: N/A) Total : 203
Sentinel Physician Reporting in NL
Sentinel physicians report 3.8% of patients presented with ILI symptoms Eastern: 3.2%; Central: 9.3%; Western: N/A%; Labrador-Grenfell: 1.8% The age group of 5-19 years shows the highest rate of ILI cases (11.9%)
