The Animal Health Laboratory at the University of Guelph notifies the CFIA of the detection of presumptive H5 avian influenza at a turkey farm in Oxford County, Ontario. This is IP3.
The premises has been under quarantine since April 19, 2015 and is part of the second avian influenza control zone.
Samples from the affected farm are sent to the CFIA National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease (NCFAD) for official confirmation.

Poultry producers nervous about newest Oxford case of avian flu 3

Agencies and farmers alike have been working day and night to control the spread of a fast-moving and deadly form of the avian influenza in Oxford County.

But the virus is still cropping up in new spots.

This time, it?s a turkey operation in the northeast part of the county, within the second avian influenza control zone.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has clammed up, releasing little to no information about the extent of the spread.

The newest victim is listed only as IP3: infected property #3.

It?s the third farm, and second turkey operation, to be hit with the H5N2 avian flu, a strain that can wipe out an entire flock in just a few days.

And with two distinct avian flu control zones in effect, the quarantine count is up over 50 farms, mainly in Oxford County but also a small portion of Waterloo Region.
