    Quebec reports 1,773 new cases of COVID-19 and 36 deaths

    MONTREAL -- Quebec health authorities reported 1,773 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the province since the start of the pandemic to 172,801. Of them, 17,732 are active.

    Quebec's seven-day average currently stands at about 1,825 new cases per day.

    The province also reported that it administered another 896 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, for a total of 3,305 across the province.

    Friday's update added 36 deaths to the province's total, which now stands at 7,671. Five of the deaths announced on Friday took place in the past 24 hours, 29 more are from between Dec. 11 and 16, and two took place before Dec. 11...

      MONTREAL -- Quebec health authorities reported 2,038 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, the highest single-day jump since the start of the pandemic.

      The previous high of 2,031 was set on Dec. 5.

      The new cases bring Quebec's total number to 174,839 since the start of the pandemic.

      The new record comes just a day after Health Minister Christian Dube warned Quebecers that beds for COVID patients are being set up in hotels and reception halls as many hospitals are in a critical state and operating above capacity...

        For the second day in a row, Quebec health authorities reported a record number of new COVID-19 cases.

        On Sunday, 2,146 new cases were reported, the first time the number of new cases had topped 2,100 since the start of the pandemic. A day earlier, the province saw 2,038 new cases, which was just the second time new cases had been over 2,000 in a day.

        Health Minister Christian Dube took to Twitter to call on Quebecers to continue distancing themselves from each other, saying pressure on the province's healthcare system continues to grow. ..

          MONTREAL -- Quebec health authorities reported 2,108 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, which is the third day in a row the province has reported more than 2,000 cases of the disease in a 24-hour period.

          The updated numbers bring Quebec's cumulative case count to 152,869 since the start of the pandemic. Of them, 18,458 are active.

            MONTREAL -- For the third time in four days, Quebec beat its record for the highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases on Tuesday when it reported another 2,183 across the province.

            Montreal alone saw 893 cases, shattering its previous record of 786 set on Sunday.

            Since the start of the pandemic, Quebec has recorded 181,276 cases of the disease. As of Tuesday, 18,809 cases are active.

            The province's seven-day average currently stands at 2,000 new cases per day.

            Tuesday's updated numbers also added 28 deaths to the provincial total, which now stands at 7,794. Of the latest deaths, 10 occurred in the past 24 hours, 14 are from between Dec. 15 and 20, one is from before Dec. 15 and another three are from an unknown date.

            The City of Montreal has recorded 63,721 since the start of the pandemic with Tuesday's updated numbers. Monteregie also reported a high number of cases, with 337 (total 25,321), followed by Quebec City, with 219 (total 15,902), Laval, with 162 (total 14,727), and Lanaudiere, with 116 (total 13,907).

            Hospitalizations in the province jumped by seven from Monday to Tuesday and there are now 1,055 people receiving treatment in Quebec hospitals. Of them, 137 are in the intensive care ward, which is nine fewer than Monday's total...

              Hospitalizations climb as Quebec sets daily record with 2,247 new COVID-19 infections

              For a second consecutive day, Quebec is reporting a record-breaking number of daily COVID-19 cases with 2,247 new infections on Wednesday.

              That brings the total caseload in the province since the start of the novel coronavirus pandemic to 183,523.

              Quebec continues to lead the country in fatalities linked to the illness.

              On Wednesday, health authorities recorded 74 more COVID-19-related deaths for a total of 7,867 — almost double that of Ontario at 4,229. All other provinces and territories have recorded fewer than 1,000 deaths.

              Vaccination efforts which began on Dec. 14 in two long-term care facilities (CHSLDs) in Montreal and Quebec City were extended to other regions earlier this week.

              Quebec Health Minister Christian Dub? said vaccination has now begun in the Saguenay, the Mauricie, the Outaouais, the Laurentians and the Lanaudi?re regions.

              To date, 7,229 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, including 1,891 doses on Tuesday.

              Under the provincial vaccination rollout plan, residents and staff of long-term care homes, which were especially hard-hit in the first wave of the pandemic, are at the top of the priority list to receive the vaccine...

                Quebec reports 2,349 more COVID-19 cases in another record-breaking 24 hours

                MONTREAL -- As the province prepares for another lockdown, Quebec reported Thursday that 2,349 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the province, a new daily record that brings the total number of positive cases to 185,872 since the start of the pandemic.

                It is the fifth time the daily record has been broken in six days.

                The Quebec Institute of Public Health reports that there are 19,758 active novel coronavirus cases, and that 1,926 more people have recovered from the disease bringing that total to 158,201.

                In addition, the province added 46 deaths due to the disease including 13 in the past 24 hours, 29 between Dec. 17 and Dec. 22, and two occurred before Dec. 17 and two were reported at an unknown date.

                The total number of people who have died due to the novel coronavirus is now 7,913 since the start of the pandemic.

                The province reports that it gave out 3,942 doses of vaccine Wednesday for a total of 11,171...

                  Quebec confirms first case of new coronavirus variant as province adds 2,381 new infections

                  Quebec is reporting its first case of a variant of COVID-19 that was first detected in the United Kingdom earlier this month.

                  In a statement issued Tuesday, the province’s Health Ministry said the person was “in contact with a member of their family who returned to Quebec on Dec. 11, after a stay in the United Kingdom, and who tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 13.”

                  “The epidemiological investigation showed that the person who traveled had only prolonged contact with the three members of their family, all of whom tested positive for COVID-19 and who are in isolation at their home. One of these individuals has been identified with variant S.”

                  Public health authorities carried out investigations in Montreal and the Eastern Townships. They are following the situation “very closely,” according to the ministry...

                    MONTREAL -- Quebec health authorities reported 2,511 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, which is the highest single-day increase the province has recorded since the pandemic began.

                    Wednesday's updated numbers bring the total number of cases in Quebec since the start of the pandemic to 199,822. Of them, 21,611 are active, and 170,045 are confirmed recovered.

                    Quebec also reported another 41 deaths linked to the disease on Wednesday, for a total of 8,165. Of the latest deaths, 10 occurred in the past 24 hours, 28 took place between Dec. 23 and Dec. 28, and three are from an unknown date.

                    Hospitalizations in the province jumped by 80 from Tuesday to Wednesday and there are now 1,211 people receiving care for COVID-19 in Quebec hospitals. Of them, 152 are in the intensive care ward, up four from Tuesday...

                      MONTREAL -- On the final day of 2020, Quebec confirmed COVID-19 cases shot past 200,000, as the province reported a record single-day increase of 2,819 people testing positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

                      With the new cases, Quebec has reported 202,641 positive novel coronavirus tests since the start of the pandemic in March.

                      In addition, 62 more people are reported to have died due to the disease including 22 deaths in the past 24 hours, 29 deaths between Dec. 24 and Dec. 29, seven deaths before Dec. 24, and four deaths that occurred at an unknown date. One death was removed from the total number as it was found to be not attributable to COVID-19.

                      In total, Quebec has reported 8,226 deaths due to COVID-19 in 2020.

                      The Quebec Institute of Public Health is reporting that 2,002 more people have recovered from the disease bringing that total to 172,047.

                      The institute reports that there are 22,367 active cases in the province.

                      The year ends with a positive note for Quebec's health-care workers, as the province reported that there are 36 fewer people receiving treatment in Quebec hospitals for COVID-19 bringing that total down to 1,175. Of those, 165 people are in the intensive care ward, an increase of 13...
