  • South Korea confirms second case of swine flu

Seoul - South Korea on Tuesday confirmed a second case of an infection with the influenza A(H1N1) swine flu virus, which is also the first case in Asia of a human-to-human infection. The Health Ministry confirmed that the patient, a 44-year-old nun, was in contact with the first case, an older nun who tested positive for the virus after returning from Mexico.

The first patient has already recovered from the illness and left hospital. In Asia, so far, two cases in South Korea, three in Israel and one in Hong Kong have been confirmed.

Health authorities said the nun probably infectedherself after picking up her colleague at the airport. A third woman, a 62-year-old South Korean who was on the same plane as the first patient, is also being tested for a possible infection.

Around the world, there have been more than 1,200 confirmed cases, the large majority in North America.
