Swine flue claims two lives, affects 11 so far

KARACHI (January 06, 2011) : The influenza virus (H1N1) commonly known as Swine flue has taken lives of two persons and affected 11 so far. The first victim was identified as Hafizullah, 28, died on the New Year night while the second victim was a married woman Rafia Aslam who passed away on Tuesday (January 4) at a leading private hospital in the city. Sources say the late Rafia had returned from Lahore a few days ago and became victim of Swine flue.
An official at Civil Hospital Karachi fears that the number of patients might rise. He added that the disease was curable. The official said the influenza (H1N1) virus generally creates problems in winter. It is an old virus and has three strains in humans, birds and swine. Another official said that blood samples of over 75 people have been taken for test in which 13 were tested positive including the two died so far.
