I'm interested in expert panflu damage estimates

      I agree G.W.

Seems that this bug will elude in advance the large scale small remaining possibilities to cure it.

The scenario point to be subsequently an ancient-like one.

We can argue if the 274 came about in people treated with tamiflu or whether they contracted it with the 274 polymorphism already present meaning the novel strain with this change was fit.

IMO, while we can spend our time debating these points the fact that so many examples of the novel strain have been detected with tamiflu resistance suggests to me that if it is not fit now with this change it is only a matter of time before it will be.

My read? Tamiflu is toast by the fall. We better use our tamiflu now or lose it. The US send 450,000 courses to the southern American hemisphere yesterday. Why not send a whole lot more and soon before it becomes worthless.

Washington State, USA, and Hong Kong are in seasonal H1N1 , not the novel H1N1 ?

re the Japanese case not responding to Tamiflu..it's my understanding the patient declined to take Tamiflu, and it is only lab testing of the virus that suggested resistance, not that the case didn't respond. I presume the patient didn't feel ill enough to want the Tamiflu, which would only have shortened the duration of her symptoms by a day, and may have been too late to even do that

The Washington state post was of seaosnal flu. No one has claim the Washington state isoalte was pandemic flu. However, Hong kong is pandemic flu and patient has asymptomatic/mild case and was never treated with Tamiflu, but had resistance, which was H274Y (although not stated as H274Y). Moreover, since the patient arrived on a direct flight from San Francisco, Tamiflu resistant pandemic flu is also circulating in California.

Seems there is a mix-up. Chyna is probably talking about the hong kong case, not the japanese case.

If not, I'd like to know the source of the information.

Agree. Three cases in one week creates confusion.
