Epidemiological comments
Abnormal mortalities were observed in one geese breeding farm in Yunlin County. Samples were sent to the National Laboratory (AHRI) for diagnosis. H5N2 subtype HPAI was confirmed by AHRI. During the third round surveillance conducted around the index farm, H5N2 avian influenza virus was further isolated from swab samples taken from two meat-type duck farms. These three farms have been put under movement restriction. All animals on the infected farms have been culled. Thorough cleaning and disinfection have been conducted after stamping out operation. Surrounding poultry farms within 3 km radius of the infected farms are under intensified surveillance for 3 months. A chicken farm located in Changhua County was reported to the OIE as infected by H5N2 HPAI on 7 July 2015. After stamping out operation was conducted by the Local Disease Control Center (LDCC) and cleaning and disinfection was completed, the farmer applied for sentinel chicken test to the LDCC in order to restock the population. After the test, all the 20 sentinel chickens were sent to AHRI for laboratory testing and were confirmed by AHRI as infected by H5N2 HPAI. Cleaning and disinfection were conducted and the farm has been emptied for at least 21 days. Surrounding poultry farms within 3 km radius of the index farm are under intensified surveillance for 3 months.
