        Post 71:

Quarantine circle [ey_tta_lu_myen] AI of these types with the fact that until now China and Hong Kong, is discovered world-wide from Vietnam etc. with same channel, will occur only human body infection instance is not reported from the chicken and duck etc.
That's a definite change. And it doesn't sound like a good one.

H5N1 Clade 2.3.2 in Korea Raises Pandemic Concerns

              Recombinomics Commentary 15:42
              May 15, 2008

H5N1' Elder brother virus ' 2.3.2' Was confirmed as the channel virus

The above translation confirms that the H5N1 in South Korea is the Fujian sub-clade 2.3.2. This sub-clade has the HA cleavage site of RERRRKR and the most recent clade 2.3.2 isolate in the phylogenetic tree in the WHO vaccine target update is A/common magpie/Hong Kong/645/2006, which is among the Fujian isolates that annually appear in Hong Kong around the beginning of the year.

This identification increases the likelihood that the H5N1 in South Korea and Japan this season is linked to the northern migration of wild birds infected with clade 2.3.2 from the south. Movement of clade 2.3.2 into areas where clade 2.2 has been found would result in recombination and acquisition of clade 2.2 polymorphisms. Analysis of newly acquire polymorphisms in the above isolate indicates that most are share with clade 2.2 isolates.

The report of clade 2.3.2 in whooper swans in Japan increases the likelihood that these type of exchanges will increase, and clade 2.2 migrating into Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will have additional clade 2.3.2 polymorphisms. Moreover, the report of 2.3.2 in South Korea and northern Japan increases the likelihood that clade 2.3.2 will migrate into areas where clade 2.2 was reported previously, as well as Alaska, which lies within the East Asia flyway that is delivering clade 2.3.2 to Korea and Japan.

The finding of clade 2.3.2 in Korea and northern Japan significantly increases pandemic concerns and the likelihood that H5N1 wsill once again significantly expand its global reach and genetic diversity.

Bird flu virus in S. Korea a type that caused no human infection: report

혻 혻 SEOUL, May 16 (Yonhap) -- The strain of avian influenza that broke out in South Korea this year is a type that has not caused any human infections worldwide [SO FAR - IOH], as opposed to the kind found in Southeast Asia, the quarantine service said Friday.

혻 혻 The strain of bird flu that has swept the country for the past five weeks is different from those found in Indonesia and Vietnam, where the disease has been transmitted to humans, resulting in death, according to an intermediary report by the National Veterinary Research Quarantine Service.
A new variant? But where are the pneumonic soldier's test results?

Bird flu virus differs from 2003 and 2006

                  May 17, 2008
The current H5N1 strain of bird flu sweeping the nation is a different variation of the virus from Korea??s two previous outbreaks, a government body announced yesterday. But National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service officials said they need more time to confirm what exactly the difference is.
??We have found that this is a different H5N1 virus than that of 2003 and 2006,?? said Kim Ki-seuk, head of the team researching the virus. ??We don??t yet know if this season??s virus is a mutation. Also, we don??t yet know if it comes from Southeast Asia. We will reveal the final result after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control finish their investigation of the current H5N1 virus sample at the end of this month.??
The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention sent samples to the U.S. center earlier this month.

Both of Korea??s previous outbreaks of bird flu erupted during the cold of winter, but the current cases broke out during the warmer temperatures of spring, sometimes even during above 25 degree-Celsius (77 F) weather.
??At this time there is a high possibility that the virus comes from Southeast Asia,?? said an unnamed official from the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Meanwhile, about 600 members of the Korea Poultry, Korea Duck and Korea Egg Distribution associations protested against what they see as an excessive reaction to the bird flu outbreaks in front of the organization??s office in western Seoul. They claimed that as no human infections have been confirmed in Korea, the national center is overstating the danger, leading to a downturn in consumer sentiment.

Korea has clade 2.3.2 (a fujian subclade). Prior to the soldier, all human fujian cases were 2.3.4.

Recent AI Strain Caused No Human Infections
                        Saturday, May 17, 2008 13:01:29

The National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service says the strain of avian influenza that broke out in the nation this year is a type that has not caused any human infections.

The quarantine agency said Saturday that after studying the H5N1 virus type found in the nation, it found that the type was a clade 2.3.2 virus.

That type is different from the one found in China, Hong Kong and Vietnam that was transmitted to humans.

The study also found that this year's outbreak was different from the strains that occurred in 2003 and 2006 in the nation.

The quarantine body said migratory birds from China are likely to have caused the outbreak of bird flu in 2003 and 2006 in the nation.

Meanwhile, the agency said the virus likely spread in the nation this year through migratory birds flying in from southern regions, including Vietnam.

                          Health: Avian Influenza

This Bulletin is current for Sunday, 18 May 2008.
The Bulletin was issued on Friday, 16 May 2008, 16:19:06, EST.
                          Summary
                          • Avian influenza is primarily a disease of birds and only rarely causes infections in humans and other mammals.
                          • Human cases of avian influenza continue to occur in a number of countries as a result of exposure to infected birds, usually domestic poultry. There is currently no evidence of efficient spread of avian influenza from person to person.
                          • Australian travellers, long-term residents and businesses overseas should inform themselves about the risks of avian influenza, be prepared to take personal responsibility for their own safety and put appropriate contingency plans in place.
                          • Australians who live in an avian influenza affected area for an extended period should consider, as a precautionary measure, having access to influenza antiviral medicine.
                          • Australians intending to travel to affected countries for shorter periods are at much lower risk of infection, but should discuss the risk of avian influenza with their doctor as part of their routine pre-travel health checks.
                          • If you are visiting or living in a country affected by avian influenza, you should follow sensible precautions to reduce infection risk.
                          • If the threat of sustained human-to-human transmission appears serious, we will advise Australians in affected countries to consider leaving. If they don't leave when first advised to do so, they may be prevented from leaving later.
                          • Australians should ensure that their travel documents are up-to-date in case they need to depart an affected country at short notice.
                          • If a widespread outbreak occurs, the delivery of consular assistance to Australians could be severely constrained. Australian missions and offices overseas will not be in a position to provide influenza antiviral medicines to Australians in affected areas. Australian travellers, long-term residents and businesses are responsible for securing their own supply of influenza antiviral medicine, if required.
